DARK TRANQUILLITY Guitarist Niklas Sundin: "It's Hard To Be Objective About Our Own Work"

Metal Israel ( www.metalisrael.com ) has issued an interview with DARK TRANQUILLITY guitarist Niklas Sundin, conducted by Skazm. The following is an excerpt:

Q: What direction have you taken with the new album? From the YouTube preview it seems awesome. What are we in for?

A: "As a whole, it’s more diverse and features bigger variation between the songs than - for example - Character, but there’s no point in elaborating too much as you all can hear it pretty soon. Also, it’s hard be objective about our own work; once a recording is finished you’re usually so fed up with the songs that you don’t want to think of them, let alone try to describe how they sound. I’m not sure if all the songs you can hear on the YouTube preview will actually be featured on the album or if they’ll be saved for B-sides."

DARK TRANQUILLITY have issued the following update:

"The promo video for 'Focus Shift' was shot last week. Once again, we're working with director Roger Johansson, who did a great job on the 'Lost To Apathy' and 'The New Build' videos from Character. As previously mentioned, the 'Focus Shift' video will be featured on the limited edition version of Fiction."

DARK TRANQUILLITY - Another New Track Posted Online; New Album, Fiction, Out Now


have returned with their new album, Fiction, which was released on Century Media Records on April 23rd (Europe). As another sonic appetizer, the band have posted one more song from the album at their MySpace page, check out 'Terminus (Where Death Is Most Alive)' here.

Furthermore, the band has just returned from their US tour with THE HAUNTED, SCAR SYMMETRY and INTO ETERNITY, and issued the following message on their homepage:

“Just got back home from the tour, which without doubt was our most successful US trek so far. Huge thanks to everyone involved (bands, crew, audience). It was an honour sharing the stage with three of the best bands in the metal scene, and every night was a great experience. The final show in Los Angeles turned out to be a real highlight, with all sort of bizarre and wicked things taking place during the gig. Luckily we had doctors available!“

DARK TRANQUILLITY - Two Finnish Festival Dates Confirmed

Swedish metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY have confirmed two Finnish festival dates this summer. They are as follows:

June 9 - Sauna Open Air - Tampere, Finland
August 10 - Jurassic Rock - Finland

As previously reported, Dark Tranquillity's new album, Fiction, has achieved the following European chart positions:

Sweden - #12
Finland - #19
Germany - #59

DARK TRANQUILLITY - "Things Are Indeed Looking Victorious!"

Swedish metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY have issued the following update:
"As the picture (left) implies, things are indeed looking victorious! Fiction has been out for a few weeks now, and as no-one can have failed to notice, the response has been truly phenomenal. In all fairness, we're used to our albums receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, but the reactions to our new little baby have exceeded everything we've experienced before - a lot of people even have dubbed it our best album (at last we could dethrone the 12 year old The Gallery from that spot.

Here in Sweden, the feedback has been nothing short of fantastic. #1 and #2 in the soundchecks of the two leading metal magazines (Sweden Rock and Close-up) and great reviews in all the major newspapers and tabloids - not to mention good chart positions, healthy sales and a general thumbs-up from the metal community.

Promotion activities have been manyfold and weird. Apart from the usual tons of interviews, Mikael (Stanne - vocals) and Martin (Brändström - electronics) recently graced the premises of MTV Nordic to appear in the morning show Mycket Mer Än Müsli, in which they discussed the new album as well as playing some poker.

Gig-wise, we'll have our busiest summer ever, playing the three most prolific Swedish festivals (Hultsfred, Arvika and Sweden Rock) as well as heading out all over Europe. Touring plans for the autumn are starting to take shape, and as soon as we know anything definite, we'll let you in on the information."
