| WARRANT Guitarist JOEY ALLEN - "We're Not By Any Means Embarrassed" Blasting-Zone.com recently caught up with WARRANT guitarist Joey Allen to discuss the band's new album, Born Again. The following is a brief excerpt from the interview: Blasting Zone: What can you tell us about the new album? Joey Allen: "It was a very fast process. There was a lot of material written before I even got back into the band. Jerry and Erik already had some material written. Once we decided to do it…it took about ten or twelve days to record. It was mainly a collaboration between Jerry, Erik and Jamie. It was just nice to be back in the studio with Jerry, Erik and Steven and Jamie was just fun to work with. Pat Regan, our producer, was great as well. It’s an kind of a representation of where we’re at today, ya know? And I’m sure the next record will be even more of an evolution because we’ve played together more now, so we’re a tighter band. Everything’s good.” Blasting Zone: How did the recording process for Born Again differ from the process for DRFSR, Cherry Pie and Dog Eat Dog? Joey: "The addition of Jamie St. James was the only difference. Plus, there wasn’t such a stranglehold on the writing like there was with the first three albums we did with Jani writing everything. Granted, Jani wrote some great stuff back in the day, but with him out of the mix it was something new for everybody. We’re happy with the sound, we’re happy with the songs. We’re not by any means embarrassed.” Blasting Zone: In hindsight, are you a better and more consistent live act now than you were once upon a time? Joey: “Well, it’s hard for me to relate to some of the old shows (laughs) because my memory doesn’t serve me right on all of them because of all of the partying that was going on back then. We’re even stronger now than we were then. We still play some club shows. We’ve been playing some bigger summer shows, too and it’s been going well. The fans have been going crazy. We’re a different band now. The old stuff sounds like Warrant with Jamie singing, but he hits the notes and we do the best we can. The new stuff sounds slammin’, ya know? We play a couple off the new record. We might stretch it to three. It’s a lot of fun again. And that’s what the whole thing is about. All of the…brutal travel and some of the smaller clubs can be a beating as far as production and things like that, but it’s worth it when you get to play and the people enjoy it.” To read the entire interview go to this location. http://www.blasting-zone.com/Warrant1.htm | |
