QUEENSRŸCHE : news + Q2K réedition avec bonus


Rhino Records has set an August 29, 2006 release date for the reissue of QUEENSRŸCHE's 1999 effort, "Q2K". The new CD will include 3-4 bonus tracks, the details of which will be announced soon. Limited-edition signed copies and a free "Q2K" cap will be included in the new package.

QUEENSRŸCHE's latest CD, "Operation: Mindcrime II", has sold 79,000 copies in the United States since its April 4 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.

Queensryche est l'un de mes groupes cultes. Operation Mindcrime sorti en 88, avait un peu révolutionné le genre, en appportant un album concept ultra mature et des shows vraiment exceptionnels. Le public avait été emballé et le groupe fut rapidement propulsé au sommet.
Le groupe n'a pas connu la même gloire dans les années 90, notamment après la sortie de Promised Land qui avait vu le groupe se diriger vers un style plus pop que n'a pas apprécié la grosse base de ses fans.
On peut en tout cas réécouter Mindcrime et Empire, qui n'ont pas pris une ride.
Geoff Tate reste en outre l'un des chanteurs les plus fabuleux de ces 20 dernières années.

On est vraiment en droit de se demander comment sonnera cette suite de l'un des albums concepts les plus adulés, surtout que De Garmo (guitare) ne fait plus partie du groupe.

Capitol/EMI have a knack for taking back catalogue pieces and recycling them into ‘must-have’ collector’s items and this release is no different. Originally released in 1988, Operation: Mindcrime became Queensryche’s defining album and is considered by many to be the best prog metal album ever. The neo-political good-versus-evil concept born out of Geoff Tate’s observations of real life figures in a Montreal bar and set to hard-driving music, at the time, seemed like a foolish move for the band to consider, but now it would be hard to imagine what would have become of Queensryche without its release. This Deluxe Edition remaster (three discs) offers the original album with two bonus tracks as well as the entire Hammersmith Odeon 1990 Operation: Mindcrime live recording which truly captures the essence of the band and album. It also marks the first release of Video: Mindcrime on DVD. Originally released on VHS tape in 1989, Video: Mindcrime culls together the eight promo clips made to support the album. The DVD also offers ‘The Making Of Operation: Mindcrime’ and ‘Operation:Mindcrime TV Spot’ as previously unreleased bonus footage. All in all this ‘deluxe edition’ takes a grand album and makes it grander. Even if you already own the album this is worth buying.

QUEENSRŸCHE Conquers The Pavement For VH1 Save The Music Foundation
Press Release:

In a ride that traveled throughout twelve states and saw speeds of up to 135 miles per hour, QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate and guitarist Mike Stone rode over 2,000 miles on their custom Buell Ulysses bikes for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

The Rock and Ride Across America occurred at various locations during their current tour with thousands of fans joining Tate and Stone along the way.

Those who donated to the cause got a chance to ride with the pack.

After the performances in their hometown of Seattle, Queensrÿche auctioned off both custom Buell motorcycles to the highest bidders. Sure, they squashed a few bugs along the way but the donation was true "road kill" as the band and their fans raised over $80,000 for the Foundation.

According to Geoff Tate, "Everyone in the band got their musical start from school music programs. If we hadn't had
those opportunities, we wouldn't be where we are today. I felt really lucky to be involved in such a fun set of events for such a worthy cause."

"We are so thankful to Queensrÿche for their support and generosity," said Paul Cothran, Executive Director, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. "Their support will ensure that hundreds of public school students receive the benefits of music education."

Queensrÿche will be on the road - in support of Operation: Mindcrime II (Rhino Records) - until early December.

QUEENSRŸCHE Fan Sues Hampton Casino

A nonprofit corporation that fights for the rights of the disabled is suing the Hampton Beach Casino for allegedly not being handicappedaccessible.

Access with Success, a Massachusetts organization, filed the civil suit on behalf of all its members earlier this month in federal court.

In its suit, Access with Success claims the owners of the Hampton Beach Casino discriminated against one of its members because the building does not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Access with Success asks the court to force the casino to bring the building into compliance and make it accessible.

The suit was prompted after one of its members, Dino N. Theodore, went to purchase tickets on Oct. 18 to the QUEENSRŸCHE concert that was going to be held at the casino.

Theodore is paralyzed from the chest down and requires a wheelchair. He claims he could not enter the casino because it does not comply with ADA requirements. He also claims he couldn't even purchase tickets because it was not "fully accessible."
