IRON MAIDEN Announce Details For The Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008

Maiden ' Somewhere Back In Time ' 2008 73227

IRON MAIDEN announce their most ambitious and extraordinary touring plans ever - and are very pleased to announce that this will include Australia for the first time in 15 years!

The Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008 will be in three sections, starting in February and March 2008 with the first leg encompassing major concerts in 20 selected cities on five continents in seven weeks including India, Japan, North America, Central and South America, and, of course, Australia, opening in Perth on February 4 and continuing through Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane:

Somewhere Back In Time, Australia 2008

February
4 - Burswood Dome - Perth
6 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne
9 - Acer Arena - Sydney
12 - Entertainment Centre - Brisbane

The tour then continues with more concerts in North America in late May and June before finishing with a third leg in July and August encompassing major stadiums and festivals all over Europe. During the tour the band is expected to play to well over one and a half million fans and travel close to 100,000 miles.

In an historic first, Iron Maiden, their 60-strong crew and support staff and over 12 tons of equipment will be traveling around the world en masse for the first leg of the tour in a specially commissioned and converted Astraeus Boeing 757 decorated with Maiden and Eddie designs! Vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is a qualified Airline Captain flying for Astraeus Airlines, will pilot the plane on its epic mission, flying over 50,000 miles.

Comments Bruce Dickinson, "We had the idea last year of converting a jumbo jet into effectively what would be a flying 113 ton 'splitter bus' for touring and we have been working seriously on it ever since. It's pretty complex but in the end we were able, with a lot of help from Astraeus Airlines, to overcome all the technicalities of customizing the plane for our purposes. We are taking out the back 10 rows of seats to fit in a customized cargo hold that we can use again in the future if this jaunt works. This is in addition to all the standard storage holds. By taking band, personnel and equipment in one form of transport it makes all the touring so much easier and overcomes the logistical difficulty of people and equipment going in different planes. We can even work out exactly how big our carbon footprint is and take care of that responsibility! We will be packing as much of
the show into the plane as we possibly can for this first leg and intend to give the fans something very special to remember. And it allows me to combine 2 of my greatest passions, music and flying!!

To tie in with forthcoming 2008 releases on DVD of the classic Live After Death and Maiden England concert videos (more details coming soon) this tour, aptly entitled Somewhere Back In Time, will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the 80's in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 Powerslave Tour. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.

Steve Harris comments; "On the last tour we opened the show by playing our new album A Matter of Life And Death in its 80 minute entirety. We thought we needed the challenge and it proved the right thing to do. However, it can be hard on the fans playing so much new material and we really appreciated the superb support they gave us. So now l guess it's payback time. It's tremendous to be able to use the profile of the DVDs to do what is effectively an 80's show. It will be enormous fun and by changing the approach to the songs we play tour by tour it keeps it fresh and interesting for both the band and the fans alike. l think 'Powerslave' was an incredible show with the Egyptian theme and look forward to seeing it all again myself. We have been planning this for a few years and hoping to take it to Australia -- so we are all delighted that it has now worked out. I would also like to say that we are all are very grateful to our loyal fans in Oz who have kept the Maiden flag flying all these years and we are sorry to have disappointed you for so long. Thanks and see you there"

Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden's Manager, further commented; "Following Bruce's various hints from on stage this last year about our plans for 2008 ("We are taking some time off to build some pyramids!"), fans have been pestering me for details of the tour and especially asking which songs from that era will be played. That may be as easy as a run in the hills but we will keep our aces close to our chest on this issue. I know it would only take a couple of minutes but at this stage of planning, I'd have to be clairvoyant to know what they will do. I'm sure though it will be no revelation for you that we intend to make up for those wasted years by visiting a large number of hallowed metal venues around the world. Historically Powerslave was an incredibly important album for the band and it would be madness if we didn't give the fans a taste of the full on Iron Maiden show from that time. With our jumbo there really is no rime nor reason why the band cannot now visit fans almost everywhere as many have been real troopers to have waited this long. Heaven only knows what the band will choose but if l could and did tell you now l would have to shoot you! You'll all have to be patient and see. But it will be spectacular. No fear!!"

Historically, this will be Maiden's fourth Australian Tour having first toured in 1982 when The Number Of The Beast was Australia's number one album, then again in 1985 with the original 'Powerslave' show and most recently in 1992 with Fear Of The Dark. However a great deal has happened with the band since then, especially in recent years when ticket sales have continued to explode around the world as the band's loyal fan base continues to flourish. As Maiden have never had airplay or much video channel exposure anywhere in the world their popularity spread mainly by word of mouth on the back of a legacy of many great albums and an awesome live reputation. With the ever increasing power of the internet the Maiden legend has fired the imagination of new young fans around the planet, and, although their audience spans two generations, it is now predominantly a young one, inspired by the massive legacy and influence of this unique band (and, of course, Eddie).

To allow Iron Maiden fans in Australia to get right up close to the band, the fan club are organizing advance booking of tickets for members and running a special draw for them whereby 60 winners and friend at each show will be given first access to the venue and be first to the stage barrier. Full details will be on
www.ironmaiden.com.

Tickets go on sale to the public 9am Thursday 27th September, but members of the Iron Maiden fan club get exclusive first access to purchase tickets from 12 noon Thursday 20th September through to 12 noon Monday 24th September. More details soon!

This first leg of Iron Maiden's 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME' World Tour will open in Mumbai India on Feb 1st, and continue through Australia, Japan, Los Angeles and Mexico, followed by the band's first ever concerts in Costa Rica and Columbia, and then on to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rica and New York, before finishing in Toronto, Canada, on March 16th. Over the 45 day period it is anticipated that Maiden will play to well over 400,000 fans in 21 cities in 10 countries, flying close to 50,000 miles in the specially refitted plane (full schedule below).
Comments Bruce Dickinson, "I have been flying commercial passenger jets for Astraeus Airlines for a few years now and we are commissioning an Astraeus Boeing 757. It will go in for overhaul, painting and conversion in November which will then give us time to ensure we have all the necessary safety documentation, especially with regard to fire safety. It also means it could possibly be flying commercial air routes decked out in Maiden colours for a couple of months before we start!
"Looking at the list of places we would like to play we have always had problems joining up the dots. With sea containers in various places it slows down the whole touring process, which is fine if you want a holiday but not if you want to play. It's great to see places but we don't want to sit around for a week waiting for gear to get from, say, Australia to South America, so this way we can get to more fans in more places en route in the same time period"
To tie in with forthcoming 2008 releases on DVD of the classic 'LIVE AFTER DEATH' concert video (full details coming soon) this tour, aptly entitled 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME', will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the 80's in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 'Powerslave Tour'. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.
Steve Harris comments "l always loved the Powerslave show which I think was arguably our most spectacular ever, so taking it out again is really going to be a lot of fun. Taking our own 757 really makes it a lot more flexible for us and we intend to ram into the specially constructed cargo holds as much of the show as we possibly can. The schedule we have been able to put together due to this flexibility l think is very exciting, taking us to some places we haven't been in a long while like Australia and some we have never been to like Columbia and Costa Rica. It is always refreshing going to new places and we hear the fans there are incredible! It's a lot of flying but will be well worth it.
"As always when planning these tours we sadly aren't always able to get to everywhere that we'd like to for various logistical and timing reasons
and there are probably fans out there who might be disappointed. We promise we will try even harder the next time around to get to those places."

IRON MAIDEN Mania In Sweden, Finland And Columbia As Tickets Go On Sale For The Band’s Somewhere Back In Time World Tour

Maiden ' Somewhere Back In Time ' 2008 77526

When tickets went on sale yesterday morning for IRON MAIDEN’s three stadium shows in Sweden and Finland the box offices were inundated and all 123,500 tickets were quickly sold out – over nine months in advance of the concert dates.

The two Swedish shows, July 16 at Stockholm Stadium and July 26 at Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, with respective capacities of 31,500 and 50,500, sold out in less than two and a half hours.

The show at the 41,500 capacity Helsinki Olympic Stadium on July 18 sold out in under two hours and further demand is so great that a further show has been added in Finland at the 30,000 capacity Ratina Stadium in Tampere on July 19. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday 16 November at 9.00am, but special arrangements are being made for their fan club members to buy in advance at an exclusive pre-sale - more information to be found at www.ironmaiden.com

Says promoter Thomas Johansson of EMA Telstar: “We said when we announced this tour that is was the biggest Nordic Tour by any rock band ever and that we wanted to ensure that as many fans as possible could get to see this amazing band. It’s the first time any International Artist of any description has played stadiums in both our major cities, Stockholm and Gothenburg, on the same tour - and even this wasn’t enough to satisfy the huge demand. All the 82,000 tickets were gone less than two and a half hours in these cities! The same story in Finland with Helsinki Olympic Stadium selling out 41,500 tickets in even less time, and demand is still so high we have added a second stadium in Tampere. You must appreciate that Helsinki has a population of half a million so this is equivalent to selling out a dozen Wembley Stadiums before lunch. It just goes to show just how much people here love and respect this band. Their response to this tour and these ticket sales are truly phenomenal. We will just have to make the next stadium tour even bigger!!!”

Tickets also went on sale in Columbia and Phil Rodriguez, the promoter for the show at the 30,000 capacity Simon Bolivar Stadium in Bogota, stated that it was the fastest and biggest first day box office of any music event ever in Columbia; “Box Office records were broken from the very start and Maiden mania is sweeping Columbia. We sold over 12,000 on just the first day. Nobody has ever done this, it’s fantastic – this is usually a “slow” market for ticket sales. But even though this is the first time the band have ever played here it does not particularly surprise us – Maiden are just huge in all of South America, the kids worship them. This is a massive event for the hordes of Maiden fans here”

Manager Rod Smallwood comments: “We are delighted by the incredible response of our fans worldwide to next year’s tour. The reaction in Sweden and Finland is overwhelming, and also in Columbia, where we have never played before. Everywhere tickets have gone on sale so far we have had a tremendous response at the box office. Australia, where we haven’t played for 15 years, opened up with nearly 45,000 tickets sold, with the large arenas in both Sydney and Melbourne selling out in less than half an hour and second shows added to both. Sales for Wachen, Germany’s major Metal festival, are at this stage well ahead of any previous year so at least 70,000 will certainly be there. And this last weekend we also opened up with major arena dates in Los Angeles, New Jersey and Toronto and between them fans snapped up over 25,000 tickets within hours of the box office opening. Its seems that this has really caught the imagination of rock fans everywhere and we look forward to going on sale in many other countries very soon and getting back out on the road in India at the beginning of February”

On February 5th, 2008 Maiden will release the hightly anticipated DVD of Live after Death and to tie in with this will play songs mainly from their classic 80s albums on this forthcoming tour. The stage production will also feature a Production based on the Egyptian themed Powerslave Tour which was featured on the original 1985 video release of Live After Death.

Dates announced so far are as follows – India, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina are yet to go on sale.

"IRON MAIDEN are to perform at the Ominisport De Bercy Arena in Paris on Tuesday, July 1st as part of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008.

Steve Harris says "We've had many great shows at the Omnisport De Bercy venue over recent years and it was actually the first place in Europe we played with the current line up back in 1999. The atmosphere there is always electric thanks to the energy of the fans and we're really looking forward to playing there again.

It's also tremendous to be able to use the profile of the Live After Death DVD to do what is effectively an '80's show. It will be enormous fun and changing the approach to the songs we play tour by tour keeps it fresh and interesting for both the band and the fans alike. l think Powerslave was an incredible show with the Egyptian theme and I'm looking forward to seeing it all again myself."

Maiden Mania is currently gripping the world as tickets sales of the 2008 World tour fly out of the box offices in Australia, India, Japan, North and South America and now Europe.

In Scandinavia this week the band sold out three stadium shows in Sweden and Finland with all 123,500 tickets purchased in a mad rush within two hours of going on sale.

Comments Bruce Dickinson, "Looking at the list of places we would like to play we have always had problems joining up the dots. But without having sea containers all over the place slowing down the whole touring process and by having our own plane it has made it far easier to tour distant places like Australia for the first time in 15 years. IRON MAIDEN Confirms Athens Show

Maiden ' Somewhere Back In Time ' 2008 T79386 IRON MAIDEN have issued the following update:

Big Star Promotion in association with Phantom Music Management and K2 Agency is proud to announce that Greece will be part of Iron Maiden's spectacular Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008.

Iron Maiden are confirmed to perform at the Terra Vibe Park in Athens on Saturday, August 2nd 2008.

Steve Harris says, "This is a great venue to play. We played there back in 2005 and I remember it being unbearably hot but the fans were just wild and gave us a fantastic reception. I have to say that fans in Greece are as loud and responsive as any anywhere in the world. Thats the major reason why we have always tried hard to have Greece in out tour itinery although it can be tough geographically!! We also enjoy Athens culturally and we have all made more than one visit to the Acropolis and other beautiful relics. And the food is terrific!!"

This tour, aptly entitled Somewhere Back In Time, will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the '80's in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 Powerslave Tour.

This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.

The Somewhere Back In Time World Tour opens in Mumbai India on Feb 1st, continuing through Australia and Japan before arriving in Los Angeles. The entourage then fly to Mexico then onto Maiden's first ever visits to Costa Rica and Colombia, then on to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rica and New York, before finishing in Toronto, Canada, on March 16th. For this first leg the band have their own customised Boeing 757 carrying band, crew and equipment and to be flown some 60,000 miles round the world by singer and Astraeus Airline Captain Bruce Dickinson.

The second leg of the tour will be in mid-May to mid-June in North America while the final third leg, where Greece is included, takes place in July and August in stadiums and major festivals around Europe.

In total the band are expected to play to well in excess of one and a half million fans around the world during the whole tour. Tickets having been selling incredibly quickly in all cities where they are already on sale. Three stadium shows in Sweden and Finland completey sold out 125,000 tickets within 2 hours of going on sale and in Bogota the first days ticket sales were the highest of any musical ever in Columbia.

The stage of Terra Vibe Park - one of the largest ones in Europe - impressive, visible from all angles and able to lift 130 tons of equipment, will be perfect to host all the elements of the great show.

Tickets go on sale to the public at 10.00am on Tuesday December 18th, but members of the Iron Maiden fan club will get special and exclusive first access to purchase tickets on Monday 17th December. Watch the www.ironmaiden.com and www.didimusic.com for further information!

We have visited Croatia only a couple of times before, both times in Zagreb much further north in the country. The first time was way back in 1986 and last time on the 'Give Me Ed' tour 3 or 4 years ago. IRON MAIDEN - More Support Announced For Aussie Dates

IRON MAIDEN's official website has been updated with the following:

On the eve of the highly anticipated Australian leg of the Iron Maiden world tour, which will see the band play sold out arena shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in February, the support acts have been announced.

Legendary local metal band VANISHING POINT is confirmed as support on the Perth and Melbourne Iron Maiden shows. The band has produced four critically acclaimed releases and accolades too numerous to mention in a career spanning more than a decade. Consisting of five like-minded, yet distinct individuals, the members of Vanishing Point are among the elite who push boundaries, erase labels and dismantle the preconceptions of what a heavy metal band should be.

BEHIND CRIMSON EYES is support on the Sydney and Brisbane Iron Maiden shows. Sine 2005 the band has released two EPs and late last year they released their debut album A Revelation For Despair. The band has a massive following in Australia are primed to showcase their new album which is definitely the heaviest the band has ever sounded.

New UK artist LAUREN HARRIS and her band have been announced as the opening act on all Australian Iron Maiden dates. Twenty one year old Lauren Harris is the oldest daughter of Iron Maiden founder and bassist Steve Harris. Laura literally grew up on music and Maiden tours so it was only natural that she wanted make her own mark as an artist. She had just started singing in London's pubs when legendary British producer writer-artist Russ Ballard noticed her one night and hired her as the female voice for the new material he was writing. With the confidence this gave her she put a band together and over the last couple of years she has been touring extensively with Maiden and with other bands including WITHIN TEMPTATION and THUNDER, working on material and then recording between tours. It is expected that her debut album, full details of which will be announced soon, will be available online and at the shows for the start of the tour. IRON MAIDEN Comment On Somewhere Back In Time Tour Documentary

Maiden ' Somewhere Back In Time ' 2008 T81807 As previously reported, Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Films Inc. (creators of the critically acclaimed, award-winning documentary Metal: Headbanger's Journey and its soon-to-be-released follow-up Global Metal) are looking for IRON MAIDEN fans to be part of a feature documentary that will follow the first leg of the band's upcoming Somewhere Back In Time tour during February and March.

On Feburary 1, Iron Maiden and their 70-strong road crew will embark on their most ambitious tour ever. They will load into a specially refitted Astreaus Boeing 757 decked out in iconic Eddie artwork and carrying 12 tons of equipment. For this first leg of the tour, they will then fly over 70,000 km to 21 cities across 4 continents, playing to over 400,000 fans in just 45 days. All this with lead singer/commercial pilot Bruce Dickinson at the helm.

For the official tour documentary, Scot and Sam will follow the band in the air and on the stage, giving viewers behind-the-scenes and front-and-centre access to the most anticipated metal tour of 2008. They are now seeking Maiden fans in India, Australia, Japan, North America, Central America and South America to be part of this historic mission. If you're a die-hard Maiden fan who is attending one or more concerts on the first leg of the upcoming tour (February 1 to March 16 2008) and are willing to be interviewed on camera about your passion for all things Maiden, email maiden@metalhistory.com and tell us why YOU should be in this movie! All ages encouraged.

Iron Maiden have issued the following update regarding the documentary: "As well as everyone else on our 757 we have now added a seven man documentary crew who, as in their note below, are asking for Maiden fans in the many cities we play in February - March to contact them to be a part of this. This will be such an incredible and exciting tour that we agreed with Scot and Sam's proposal to document this so if you see cameras following us around everywhere and around the stage you now know why!! A record of this is something that the band and myself would love to have and we are feel that many of you fans may feel hopefully feel the same - there has never been a tour quite like this before!"
