ROSE TATTOO - Too Rock N' Roll For The Aussie Music Industry?

Australia's The Age ( www.theage.com.au ) has issued the following report from Sticky Carpet's Patrick Donovan:

Are ROSE TATTOO too rock'n'roll for the Australian music industry? Seven members of the band - Angry Anderson, Geordie Leach, Ian Rilen, Rob Riley, Mick Cocks and the late Pete Wells and Dallas "Digger" Royal - will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame next Wednesday, but unlike fellow inductees THE DIVINYLS, DADDY COOL and ICEHOUSE, the band were not asked to perform on the night.

"They probably think we will turn up pissed and tell everyone to get f----d," Anderson told Sticky, " but those days are long gone. We're not really fazed."

As with HELEN REDDY and ailing LOBBY LOYDE, their peers will pay tribute to them in song. Anderson says the band nominated four young Aussie bands - JET, THE LIVING END, THE CASANOVAS and THE SPAZZYS - to carry out the honour, and Jet were happy to oblige with 'We Can't Be Beaten'. Anderson is thrilled that Loyde, who once played bass with the Tatts, will be inducted on the same night. "I believe in synchronicity and I think this was meant to be. We both have made our contributions to music but under the radar." The Divinyls' Chrissy Amphlett is also excited about the night. "It's so great being a part of it this year. Rose Tattoo and Lobby were two of my favourite bands."

The induction is testament to some of Australian rock's great survivors and the not-so-lucky. Rose Tattoo have lost Pete Wells and Digger Royal, and this year former members Ian Rilen and Loyde were struck down with cancer. Do you have to live that hard to play hard?

"All these blokes - Digger, Pete, Lobby and Ian - lived hard," Anderson said. "The reason people like us get into rock'n'roll is to express something that you can't express any other way. And knowing these guys, there's always been a certain amount of drama and torment in their lives, and that's conducive to making great art - and that goes if you're Michelangelo or Lobby Loyde."

"You have to pay the price for the decisions you make. If you want to produce that kind of rock'n'roll, you're gonna have to pay the piper at some stage. I paid the price from when I used to knock myself around a bit. Relationships get destroyed; you can't remember anything from a five-year period - that's pretty disturbing; there's missed opportunities. But if you're going to die happy, you have to have as few regrets as possible. You make a choice, and none of us are going to bleed about it. Pete and Lobby and Ian are the kind of people who would say, 'I made my choices, I did what I did and no regrets'."

Rose Tattoo play at Loyde's benefit at the Palace on August 29th, and Rilen's benefit at the Prince on October 5th. And Rose Tattoo member Geordie Leach will hook up with his SOUTHERN LIGHTNING bandmates, including fellow inductee, Gary Young from Daddy Cool, at Fitzroy's Rainbow Hotel next Tuesday.

ROSE TATTOO To Be Inducted Into ARIA Hall Of Fame In Melbourne Tonight

According to News.com.au, six Australian acts will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Melbourne tonight. JET will cover the ROSE TATTOO classic 'We Can't Be Beaten' as a special tribute to the group, which is being honoured tonight along with five others. Rose Tattoo's lead singer, Angry Anderson, says it is an honour that came too late for the group's guitarist and founder, Pete Wells. Wells died from prostate cancer in March this year. "When we told him we were up for it and he just sort of, you know, smiled and sort of said, 'Well you know, about time', well, a bit more colourfully than that he put it, but his words were about time," Anderson said.

Mums The Word For ROSE TATTOO

According to Paul Cashmere from Undercover.com.au, Angry Anderson brought a special lady along for the ROSE TATTOO induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame … his mother. Rose Tattoo were honoured by the Australian Music Industry for a career dating back to the mid '70s. The band was inducted by former SUPERJESUS singer Sarah McLeod who said she got into Rose Tattoo after finding out that the song 'Nice Boys' on the GUNS N' ROSES record G'n'R Lies was actually theirs. JET performed their classic hit 'We Can't Be Beaten'. Angry vowed that Rose Tattoo will continue as a live act. Shortly before the death of Pete Wells this year, he said he visited Wells and Wells gave the okay for the Tatts to play on. "It is what he wanted" Angry said.

ROSE TATTOO - Angry Anderson Speech The Highlight Of 2006 ARIA Hall Of Fame Induction
Rose Tattoo T49419kd6

ABC Online ( www.abc.net.au ) has issued the following report from Katie Cassidy:

The 2006 ARIA Hall Of Fame inductees were, well, inducted last night in Melbourne.

They included THE DIVINYLS, ROSE TATTOO, HELEN REDDY, DADDY COOL, ICEHOUST and LOBBY LOYDE.

Acts are selected based on a short criteria set by ARIA, which include things like having had a "cultural impact within Australia" and "a significant body of recorded work".

Apparently, one of the highlights was the speech given by Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson.

"Being in Rose Tattoo is like being in the Mafia: you can join but you can never get out. It's all about the attitude. If you are one of the best in the country, you're one of the best in the world."

The most inspirational moment of the night came when Loyde, who is battling lung cancer, took to the stage to belt out a tune with Billy Thorpe in support.

But that's not the end of it, there will be another inductee announced at the ARIA Awards on October 29th. Stay tuned.

The Shallow End has some here from last night's red carpet.

Alors que le décès de Pete Wells est encore relativement récent, c'est l'ancien bassiste Lobby Loyde qui le remplacera au sein de Rose Tattoo maintenant que le groupe s'apprête à entrer en studio !

ROSE TATTOO Frontman Urges Men To Have Prostate Checked
Rose Tattoo 54992rj7
The following report is courtesy of news.com.au:

He's a real blokes' bloke, but Angry Anderson isn't above speaking about men's bits. The ROSE TATTOO frontman is urging men to have prostate checks. The legendary rocker, who appears in a series of television ads to promote prostate cancer awareness, said men's health was no longer an unspoken topic.

"This is about men's bits and we're not worried about talking about men's bits anymore," Anderson said. "It's the age of enlightenment. I really don't feel there's a lot of males that don't respond to going to seek treatment because it's unmanly. There's nothing unmanly asking for help."

Anderson, 59, was personally touched by prostate cancer with the death of his bandmate and longtime friend Pete Wells. Wells, 58, was the guitarist and founder of Rose Tattoo. More than 12,000 Australian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, killing 2700.

The ads featuring Anderson, who is also the face of Blundstone, are backed by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the Australian Divisions of General Practice.
