| JIMI HENDRIX Adds To Philharmonic's Central Park Fireworks The following review is courtesy of Jeremy Gerard from Bloomberg.com: In a feel-good outdoor concert featuring greatest hits from the classical textbook, the New York Philharmonic appended a splash of acid rock from that unlikely composer, JIMI HENDRIX. Some 6,000 in the crowd lolling on Central Park's Great Lawn had voted with their mobile phones, American-Idol style, for Hendrix's 'Purple Haze' over 'Flight Of The Bumblebee' by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It was a fitting end to the two-hour program on a sultry, almost cloudless night in Manhattan that began with Shostakovich and ended with fireworks exploding over the Belvedere Castle. The police estimated attendance at 61,000, according to Philharmonic spokesman Eric Latzky. Read more here. | |
