LYNYRD SKYNYRD will play at a private party hosted by a Woodlawn company at the Inner Harbor Tuesday evening (September 23rd).
The band, best known for its Southern rock anthem 'Sweet Home Alabama', will rock on the pier next to the outdoor patio for the Hard Rock Café. Commerce Corp., a national distributor of lawn and garden products, is hosting the event on behalf of its employees and attendees of its three-day trade show that started Tuesday at the Baltimore Convention Center.
The company expects 2,000 to turn out for the event, said Carol Jacober, the company’s director of human resources. The company booked the band more than a year in advance. More downtown entertainment will follow Wednesday evening when Frankie Valli plays at McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant.
Workers were setting up an elaborate sound system and stage Tuesday afternoon for the event. A large bus, security guards and security truck were also in the Power Plant area, part of which will be closed off to the public Tuesday evening to make way for the concert.
Hard Rock Café and ESPN Zone are catering the event.
Commerce is a privately held firm that opened its first office in downtown Baltimore’s Commerce Street, which is how it got its name. It employs 450.
