Marionstar.com is reporting:
Drums are sounding once again as drum and bugle corps alumni launch an activity for high school and college-aged percussionists who want to hone their skills in a competitive atmosphere.
ESSENCE OF RHYTHM, a new Marion-based drumline founded by Carl Gannon, held its first rehearsal December 20, even though their director was hospitalized because of an illness. The drumline plans to compete in the Ohio Indoor Performance Association that will hold its March 7 competition at Marion Harding High School.
Drumlines represent what would normally be the percussion (battery) and front ensemble (pit) sections of a marching band. They include snare, bass and tenor drums, keyboards, xylophones, guitars, synthesizers and other pit instruments.
The nonprofit youth organization Winter Guard International, the leading governing body of the winter guard and indoor percussion activities, describes it as percussion theater as it brings together elements of music performance, marching and theater.
Essence Of Rhythm's routines will be based on the music of rock band
DEEP PURPLE.
