Vintage KISS Photos Available For Purchase

Kiss - Page 3 T56301 Head to the Ron Pownall Photography website at this location for your opportunity to purchase some awesome vintage KISS photos.

As reported earlier today, KISS' DVD clip collection, The Definitive Collection - Lick It Up, was due out in Japan on January 31st, 2007. But the release has now been cancelled by the record company (again). The DVD should have been released worldwide already this year, but had been delayed. Someone, who ordered the DVD in Japan has received the following message:

"We just received a notice from the label (Universal Music) that they cancelled the release of the item below which was included with your order.

Lick It Up - The Definitive KISS (UIBO-1120)

Therefore, we needed to cancel it from your order. At this time, there is no indication to show that it might be released later in the future."

KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977, which is out now as a luxurious limited three-DVD set featuring more than six hours of music, over 70 performances and four complete concerts! The limited edition third disc includes Madison Square Garden '77!

To WIN your copy of KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977 send an email to "contests@bravewords.com" - please put "KISSology" in the Subject Line. You must answer the following KISS Kranium Krunchers!

1. When and where was the KISS Army formed?
2. What years did drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley leave the band? Who replaced them?
3. What venue was KISS Alive I recorded at?
4. When and where was KISS Alive IV recorded?
5. Which former KISS member guests on PAUL STANLEY's new solo record Live To Win?

Here is more info about KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977:

For the KISS Army, the release of KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977 marks the arrival of nothing less than a Holy Grail: 6 solid hours of vintage KISS going all the way back to the deep early roots of the band's classic line-up - Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss - captured and re-mastered on 2 state-of-the-art DVDs featuring more than 70 live performances and four full concerts bundled along with unreleased tracks and never-before-seen footage.

The mind-boggling first volume of a definitive three part collection (Volumes Two and Three are being readied for release in 2007) presented by VH1 Classic, KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977 is a showcase of pristine digitally-restored video coupled with a 5.1 audio mix to provide both stunning visual quality and powerhouse finely-detailed sound designed to meet the approval of the most demanding KISSmaniac.

KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977 goes all the way back one of the band's earliest live performances in the New York pre-punk glam rock bar scene of the early 1970s before tracing the rocket-paced transformation of KISS into international rock gods who filled the world's largest arenas as the undisputed hottest band in the land by 1977.

A dream come true for the KISS Army, KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977, contains seldom seen high points of KISStory including significant never- before-available material drawn from the band's own personal video vaults. In addition to four full concerts from the peak of the band's first golden era, the DVD set also features notorious television interviews, early KISS music videos and rare unreleased tracks. Included in the lavish KISSology: Volume One 1974-1977 package are spell-binding eyewitness liner notes penned by the members of KISS themselves.

Disc One of KISSology: Volume One 1974-1976 takes a look back at an early bar-band KISS (freshly risen from the shards of WICKED LESTER) already thinking much bigger than any of their contemporaries. 1974 is covered with a live concert in Long Beach as well as KISS's televised appearances on ABC's In Concert and an interview/performance on The Mike Douglas Show. By 1975, KISS was playing San Francisco's fabled Winterland, headlining NBC's Midnight Special and making videos for 'C'mon & Love Me' and their signature 'Rock and Roll All Night', all included on KISSology. In 1976, KISS came to Detroit for an incendiary concert at the Motor City's Cobo Hall, captured on Disc One of KISSology.

Disc Two of KISSology picks up the threads of 1976 with the band's interview and performance of 'Black Diamond' on 'So It Goes',"a must-see and much-discussed interview and performance of 'King Of The Nighttime World' on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, and personal band footage from May 1976. The 1977 material on Disc Two captures the band at the pinnacle of its international fame, performing to tens of thousands of fans at the legendary Budokan Hall in Tokyo in April '77 and, a little more than a month later, headlining Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Disc Two closes with scorching concert footage from The Summit in Houston, Texas on September 2, 1977, showing KISS laying down the creed that still beats at the heart of the band: Rock & Roll All Night and Party Every Day!!!

KISS Seals Comics Deal With Platinum Studios

Kiss - Page 3 T59348 The following report is courtesy of Borys Kit from the Hollywood Reporter:

The rock group KISS has partnered with comic-book production company Platinum Studios to create a new comic-book entertainment company called the Kiss Comics Group.

This is not the first time there have been comics featuring the members of the band, but it will be the first time that Kiss -- under the banner of Kiss Catalog Ltd., run by original members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley -- will produce its own comic-book-based characters.

The co-venture aims to be more than a publisher; it plans to expand the comic-book characters' images onto multimedia platforms including print, mobile, online, film, television and licensed merchandise.

First up from the KCG will be "Kiss 4K," the story of Simmons, Stanley and other band members' transformation from rock stars to world-protecting warrior spirits. "4K" will be released in March as a 3-foot comic priced at $50, with an intent to make it the largest comic book ever published. It will be followed by merchandise including apparel, video games and comic strips for cell phones.

Platinum, which has projects such as "Cowboys and Aliens" set up at Sony Pictures, is counting on Kiss' multigenerational, international fan base as well as more than 4,000 fan sites from around the globe and will launch simultaneously in the U.S., France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The band members said they will be involved in all day-to-day decisions.

"The Kiss comics that have come out were licenses; they weren't truly part of the mythology," Platinum chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg said. "This is all of us working together. (Simmons and Stanley) care about every panel of every comic and how an image looks on a shirt."

KISS Coffeehouse Owner Interviewed

Kiss - Page 3 T60284 KISSOnline has issued the following report:

The following article appears in the latest issue of Fresh Cup Magazine. Fresh Cup is a coffee industry trade journal.

Café Crossroads - KISS Coffeehouse
Myrtle Beach, SC - Brian M. Galvin, Owner

Q: How did you get the idea to open a KISS-themed coffeehouse?

A: "I have been a KISS fan since I was 12 years old. It would be a great story to say that’s why I came up with the idea, but the truth of it is, I was opening up a Ben & Jerry’s at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL, and the developer had mentioned a need for something different in the way of coffee that would fit in there with the Hard Rock. So that prompted me to come up with the idea of the KISS Coffeehouse. But at the last minute, it wasn’t able to happen there. Everybody was pretty excited about the concept so we looked around for an entertainment-driven, tourist-based location that would make sense. We found one on Myrtle Beach, and we opened last June."

Q: What makes Myrtle Beach a tourist destination?

A: "There are tons of golf courses. The climate is beautiful. It’s in South Carolina, and there is a long season of nice weather. It’s seasonal in that it’s pretty slow there in the winter. But there’s just an incredible amount of foot traffic from around March all the way through October. And there is a lot of themed stuff to do: water parks, mini-golf, lots of shopping, a beautiful beach. It really has a lot to offer a family going on vacation."

Q: In what ways did you have to involve the band to open the coffeehouse?

A: "Well, the first thing I had to do was run it by the licensing company. They thought it was great. And I said, 'Alright, let me do a rendering of how I see this thing.' I think that’s what really sold them on it: when they saw what I was thinking about. I met with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley in Boston. They were touring at the time with Aerosmith. This was really the first time it had been done in the music industry, to have a standalone retail concept for a musician or rock band. I wanted to make sure that we got it right because to the thousands of tourists that are going by, we represent KISS. We had a great conversation, and the guys – they might not look it when you see them up on stage in eight inch heels and makeup and costume – but they’re very grounded, they really get it."

Q: Did the members of KISS have much input as to how the shop would look and what would be in it?

A: "They’re very particular about their image and what really says “KISS”. They want to make sure the iconic images are there. KISS is recognized – anywhere in the world, you can show people a picture, and they might not know it’s Gene Simmons, but they’ll say, 'Oh, that’s KISS.' So the band just wanted to make sure that that was represented the right way."

Q: And the band visited the store when it opened?

A: "Yeah, they came out for the grand opening. We had thousands of people that came for that, from as far away as Japan and Poland. The guys came out and it was a huge, huge party. Everybody got to go through to meet Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. It’s just been a great reaction here. It’s quite unbelievable. It really is the only coffee concept out there that I can think of that draws traffic to a development. And because of that, even the city of Myrtle Beach was in favor of it because they saw it as this tourist generator – whether it’s 5,000 or 10,000 people a year. Crowds would now come to Myrtle Beach because they had to visit the KISS Coffeehouse. These are KISS fans, and KISS fans are pretty rabid."

Q: What’s your approach to actual coffee?

A: "We’re really about KISS, and the overriding theme is fun. But we are very serious about the coffee, too. It really is some of the best coffee that you’ll find out there. We have just incredible espresso: it’s almost chocolaty. We decided to go with a smaller roaster that really could make smaller batches of a bunch of different varieties. The quality, we couldn’t find anything better out there. We have a great product."

Q: Is there KISS memorabilia decorating the store? Do you play KISS music?

A: We have a set of Gene Simmons’ boots and a set of Paul Stanley’s boots. And there are guitars and costume pieces from all of the band members. The music is exclusively KISS. If you were to go to a KISS Coffeehouse, you would want to hear KISS Music. You’re in there for 10 or 15 minutes, and if you don’t hear it you think, 'Well, this just isn’t right.' They have like 30 albums , so there’s lots, of different material to choose from. But then there are a lot of bands that have covered KISS songs, and we play that also. We have had some KISS fans complain about that, saying, 'Hey, I just want to hear KISS.' But the covers are important because they show that they have influenced all these other bands."

Q: People who work in retail stores get tired of Christmas music during the holidays. Do your employees ever get tired of KISS songs?

A: "Well, we have a combination of people who work there. Some work there just because it’s cool – they’re not necessarily KISS fans. I haven’t heard them say that they are sick of it, but they must be. But we have a lot of people who work there that are fans. They are probably bigger fans than I am, and I’m a big KISS fan. So they love it. That’s great when you actually have someone that is a fan that’s working there – they are thrilled to be there."

KISS Drummer Checks In From Cleveland

KISS drummer Eric Singer has issued the following update:

"This past weekend I made it back to my hometown of Cleveland for some family, friends, basketball and KISS! I started the weekend off by watching the CAVS destroy the Miami Heat! Saturday, I arrived at the Holiday Inn for the planned KISS Expo. There has not been an expo in Cleveland in a few years but, the fans turned out strong and flowed in and out through out the day. Great turnout and I want to thank Keith Leroux and Steve Stierwalt Jr. for putting on another great event. These guys are top notch and really know how to deliver the best events for KISS fans period.

I also want to thank ALL the fans who made it out in freezing cold weather from near and far (there were fans from Canada, West Virginia, Michigan etc...) YOU really made me feel special and gave me energy to sign from 12-6 pm. You rocked my world needless to say !

I then went to dinner with family and friends and had a great evening visiting some old friends from my Euclid school days. Nice to see Colleen, Maryann and Carol !! You girls made me laugh with such kool memories. We were crazy kids huh ?

On Sunday I went to another great CAVS game against my beloved Lakers... I sat right courtside under the basket and heard every word the players said during the game. Super kool experience and I gotta thank Tommy and Frank Amato for hooking me up with the seats. These guys are old band mates from my Cleveland days "Beau Coup" I will post some pics from the Expo as I receive them. Thanx again to everyone who made the weekend a success!"
