| EDGUY Frontman TOBIAS SAMMET Comments On New AVANTASIA Album As previously reported, EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet is working on another AVANTASIA album. Sammet has issued the following update: "I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to do this. There is so much creativity in the studio and the material sounds so great. There is so much variety, we got fast songs, mid-tempo songs, a few ballads. There are modern elements, epic elements, classic elements. There's no limits in our creativity and I feel blessed that I am allowed to work with the most talented sidekicks I could ever dream of." According to Sammet's official website the new Avantasia record will be a concept album featuring different singers playing different characters in a story. The concept itself will not be a sequel of the first two Avantasia albums. The new album will be produced by Sascha Paeth. KISS drummer Eric Singer has recorded the drum parts for the album and Sammet will be playing bass as well as singing. | |

| EDGUY Frontman TOBIAS SAMMET - "Whatever Bad Things People Say About The U.S. Metal Market, I Can't Agree" EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet recently sat down with his webmaster to discuss the forthcoming AVANTASIA album, The Scarecrow, and Edguy's tour plans. The following is a brief excerpt from the interview: Q: Okay, you will tour the USA with Edguy and headline Germany's Bang Your Head Festival? Isn't that a great honor, especially because the list of bands that have headlined over the past few years reads like the who-is-who of Rock history: SCORPIONS, ALICE COOPER, MOTÖRHEAD, DEEP PURPLE, WHITESNAKE to name a few... Sammet: "Great isn't it? The promotors seem to have faith in us and we're going to give people a great show in return. We've played so many tours now, I think we know how to put some life into a party on stage. As for the USA we've been touring there before and whatever bad things people say about the US metal market, I can't agree. Let's face it, the mass media don't really support traditional metal, but so what? To me it seems like the industry and young bands as well always wail and whimper. But what do they expect? Going out to play stadiums? Wake up, kids! Of course it's only clubs, we have played six European tours and only one 'real' proper US coast-to-coast-tour so far. We'll go out and kick ass. I have got many friends in the USA, I don't like the ignorance in the US entertainment business, but that won't keep me from liking the country. I don't like German pedantry, Italian mafia and Australian insects. But I'd never dislike those countries. I am looking forward to go to the US, play to our fans, meet my friends, and show the US press, what Deutschland's entertainment machine called Edguy is all about. I love going back to States and if any band hates it, well... then don't go!" Q: We've been talking about your big plans with Avantasia, but when is a new Edguy album coming out? Sammet: "We've got a DVD filmed in Brazil a few months ago, we'll edit that and then find a release date. I am going to be busy with Avantasia for the next months, but later in the year we'll be back in the studio with Edguy. I don't know about the timing, never do the second step before the first. You may sprain your ankle. Now is Avantasia-time." Go to this location to read the entire interview: | |

Banana at the 21st annual NY/NJ Kiss Expo that Alice Cooper has recorded a guest appearance on "The Scarecrow", the third installment of EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA solo project. According to Singer, Michael Schenker (ex-UFO, SCORPIONS) and Michael's brother Rudolf ( SCORPIONS) will also appear on the album, which features Eric on drums, Tobias on bass, and former MASTERPLAN/ARK frontman Jorn Lande and Amanda Somerville (the American singer-songwriter and vocal coach who is better known for her collaborations with various European metal bands, including EPICA, AFTER FOREVER and EDGUY) on additional vocals. More guest appearances are expected to be announced soon. In a recent interview, Sammet described the music on the new AVANTASIA CD as "diversified, pomp metal with some classic rock elements, Classic orchestrated moments and Celtic stuff, a big timeless production and so on and so forth. It's going to consist of many different elements. Bombastic kick-ass music with a lot of heart and depth." | AVANTASIA - New Album To Feature ALICE COOPER, MICHAEL KISKE And RUDOLPH SCHENKER, Confirmed As Headliner For Wacken Open Air 2008 EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet has confirmed that Alice Cooper, Michael Kiske (ex-HELLOWEEN) and Rudolph Schenker (SCORPIONS) will appear on his forthcoming AVANTASIA record. In addition, he wil be bringing Avantasia to the stage at the Wacken Open Air 2008 as one of the headline acts.
Sammet has issued the following statement:
"I am really proud and grateful to have Rudolf and Alice as guests on the album. I am glad Rudolf finally managed to do it as the Scorpions have been so busy promoting their new album Humanity Hour1, which I think is their best since 1987. We had to re-schedule the session once and finally we worked things out catching up backstage in Slovakia during a Scorpions/Edguy show. And what can I say about Alice Cooper? He is a unique American legend! Everybody knows him and all I can say is: I ain't worthy, I ain't worthy! The role he's sung suits him perfectly! Both Rudolf and Alice - did great performances and I am truely blessed to have won them as special guests for my album!
I love Michael's voice, he is the singer that made me want to become a singer myself twenty years ago. I am happy and proud that he is part of Avantasia again."
Other artists appearing on the new Avantasia album include Sascha Paeth (producer/guitars), Henjo Richter (GAMMA RAY/guitars), Eric Singer (KISS, Alice Cooper/drums), Miro (keyboards), Jorn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN/vocals), Bob Catley (MAGNUM/vocals) Amanda Somerville (vocals). The album, Lost In Space Part 1 and Part 2 will be released on October 19th.

| Il va falloir patienter,le calandrier a été revu et les délais s'allongent, l'album est maintenant prévu pour fin janvier :
EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet has announced that the release date of the two new six-track albums from his AVANTASIA project, entitled "Lost In Space Part 1" and "Lost In Space - Part 2", has been pushed back to November 16 from the previously announced October 19.
"We have produced so much exclusive material for these two epics that we just needed the [extra] time," stated Sammet. "Except from the title track they contain completely different material, classy material, no bonus shit! In addition we decided to put some different video footage on each CD as well. We really had to postpone the release to warrant the AVANTASIA quality. But it will be worth the wait: This is the resurrection a project like AVANTASIA deserves. Fans will get two major releases, each for the price of a single. Many thanks to my record company that supported the idea. I know it may be insane business-wise, but the fans will reward it."
AVANTASIA's full-story album, "The Scarecrow", will be released at end of January next year via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD is expected to feature guest appearances by former HELLOWEEN frontman Michael Kiske, SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker, rock legend Alice Cooper, Sascha Paeth, Henjo Richter, Eric Singer (KISS, ALICE COOPER), Miro, Jorn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN), Bob Catley and Amanda Somerville.

| AVANTASIA Vocalist TOBIAS SAMMET On ALICE COOPER's Guest Performance - "He Interpreted My Ideas Perfectly, He Transported The Mood Of The Song Perfectly" As previously reported, BW&BK recently attended a listening session for the new AVANTASIA album, The Scarecrow. Over the course of the interview that followed - due to appear in BW&BK #108 - vocalist Tobias Sammet (EDGUY) explained how he got Alice Cooper on board to sing lead vocals on the song 'The Toy Master': “It was just a case of asking Eric Singer (Cooper's live drummer) to ask Alice if he’d be willing to sing on that song," says Sammet. "Eric just passed the song to Alice but he was busy at the time, so Eric suggested we ask him again later. It turned out that Alice was going to be in Los Angeles two weeks later or something and he could record the vocals in his bassist’s studio, but he had to listen to the song and like it. There was no guarantee he was going to sing on the track. I just sent him the song and hoped he would like it enough to do it. Three or four days later I got it back, and it blew my mind. You’ve heard it; his vocals are amazing. Me and Sascha (Paeth/producer) were like little kids; ‘Alice did it! Alice did it!’ (laughs). Even when we arranged the song and I sang the demos, I had a mental image of Alice singing the song. He interpreted my ideas perfectly, he transported the mood of the song perfectly." Was there ever a fear that Cooper would deliver a performance that didn't live up to certain expectations or criteria? After all, you had zero input when he laid the vocals down. "It could have been different, of course," Sammet admits. "There’s always a risk when you’re not there that you’re going to get back something you don’t like, but Alice has so much experience, and usually people of his generation that have been in the business and have been so successful for such a long time know what to do. They don’t give you shit performances. Someone like Alice, he listens to the song and he knows instinctively what the song needs." Artists appearing on the new Avantasia album include Roy Khan (KAMELOT/vocals), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY/guitars), Oliver Hartmann, Jorn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN/vocals), Bob Catley (MAGNUM/vocals), Michael Kiske (ex-HELLOWEEN/vocals), Rudolph Schenker (SCORPIONS/guitars), Alice Cooper (vocals) and Amanda Somerville (vocals). | AVANTASIA Mainman Tobias Sammet Checks In From The Road
AVANTASIA mainman Tobias Sammet issued the following update recently following the band's June 13th show at Shinagawa Prince Stellar in Tokyo, Japan:
"How are you folks? I feel like being drunk although I am not, there was just an earthquake a few seconds ago and I am on the 21st floor of a hotel tower, it scared the shit out of me, the tower was swinging back and forth like a pendulum. Wow! Anyway, I am still alive and I guess people here got used to it. So, we have played four shows with Avantasia now and we seem to get better and better. Sweden Rock was a blast, more than 30,000 people going crazy. Switzerland, Russia and Japan were great too, it's such a unique experience to play with all those musicians I had never played with before. It's a pretty great constellation and we have a lot of fun on the road. Last night we played over two hours, adding songs like 'No Return' and 'Inside' to our regular set. I'll be off to Mexico now, we play Mexico City tomorrow. It's weird, three days ago we played Europe, a few hours ago we played Asia and in a few hours I'll cross the date line to fly to Mexico. Crossing the date line means, I'll leave Asia in the evening and arrive in San Francisco in the morning of the same day. If you do that a few thousand times you look like a baby. Thanks Japan, thanx Sweden, Switzerland, Russia. And now I am looking forward to Mexico City. See ya, Tobi"

| AVANTASIA Frontman TOBIAS SAMMET - "I’ve Never, Ever Experienced Anything Like The Show We Did At Wacken 2008" In a recent interview with BW&BK about the new EDGUY album, Tinnitus Sanctus, frontman Tobias Sammet discussed the success of his AVANTASIA all-star project's last album, The Scarecrow, and the world tour that followed in the summer of 2008: “It (the tour) was very stressful, but when you do something that you love it’s not as heavy as if you’re working in a factory or something. It was very successful, and I think everybody involved was really postively shocked by the response of the people. We only did big festivals, big headline slots, and I think that kind of made up for all the effort and hard work and travelling around the world being in a totally different time zone every second day. It really was an adventure. I’ve been touring for a long time, and I think I’ve played Wacken four times with Edguy, but I’ve never, every experienced anything like the show Avantasia did at Wacken. It was officially 80,000 people in attendance, and probably not everybody was interested in us, but it was just a huge mass of people in front of the stage, an ocean of hands, and I’ve never experienced that. The whole thing was way big than I ever dared to dream.” A new Avantasia album is inevitable somewhere down the line, but would another large scale tour be possible? “Definitely," says Sammet. I’m certainly thinking about it. I don’t know if it’s going to happen because I’m quite aware that everybody has their own schedules. It was really hard to organize that tour, but somehow the stars aligned and everybody who was needed (Jorn Lande, Andre Matos, Amanda Somerville, Sascha Paeth) was available for that particular timeframe. I don’t know if that will ever happen again, but if it does and Edguy won’t be on tour and I’m free for a certain amount of time, I’d do it willingly.
