EXTREME

REJOIN FORCES FOR NEW ALBUM AND TOUR IN 2008

EXTREME are set to return in the spring of 2008 with their first album of all new material in 13 years. The band features original members NUNO BETTENCOURT (guitar), GARY CHERONE (vocals) and PAT BADGER (bass), along with new drummer KEVIN FIGUEIREDO.

In the coming weeks, EXTREME will announce their plans for a world tour in 2008 as well as a release date and label for the as yet untitled album, which is being produced by BETTENCOURT, who says: "It will have all the ingredients of an EXTREME record. The music is always Funkier than most rock bands—and born a Bipolar Bastard child of Mr. Zeppelin and Mrs. Beatles."

The Grammy-nominated EXTREME have released four albums, plus two greatest hits sets—selling over 10 million records worldwide—and completed multiple world tours. They also achieved a 1 hit single, "More Than Words"—from their 1990 multi-platinum album Extreme II: Pornograffitti—on the Billboard Hot 100, which they followed with the Top Five "Hole Hearted." Although these two acoustic hits brought the band great mainstream success, it overshadowed the band's trademark sound: a mix of hard rock funk in the spirit and style of their predecessors Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Queen and Van Halen—fueled by BETTENCOURT's signature guitar flights and CHERONE's resonant vocals—and matched with a social consciousness in their lyrics. A career highlight came for EXTREME when Queen's Brian May asked them to perform at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert in 1992, which gave the band considerable credibility beyond the hard rock fraternity.

EXTREME have been introduced to a new generation of music fans who are connecting with the band through MySpace as a result of the inclusion of their song "Play With Me" on 2007's "Guitar Hero" video game. Outside of EXTREME, CHERONE joined Van Halen as lead singer in 1998, co-writing the Van Halen III album and touring the world with them. BETTENCOURT joined up with Jane's Addiction front man Perry Farrell to form the band Satellite Party and co-produce their album Ultra Payloaded. Satellite Party also consisted of drummer KEVIN FIGUIEREDO, whom was previously in a band with BETTENCOURT called Dramagods.

Through the years, BETTENCOURT and CHERONE have remained close and continued to collaborate on occasion. But what exactly inspired them to rejoin forces as EXTREME?

"Rock and Roll Famine…I know it might sound crazy, but there is a massive shortage of rock and roll on this planet," says BETTENCOURT. "It's almost extinct. I mean the true spirit of quality rock and roll—you know, Musicianship, when you would give up every moment of your day to master your instrument and create your own identity and sound so as to respectfully outdo all your past heroes whilst proudly wearing the badge of their influences."

"Passion," says BETTENCOURT, is what drives EXTREME. "To do whatever it takes, with integrity, to bring music to the people, not because of fame…but just cause you simply couldn't wait to share it with them."

"We realized," adds BETTENCOURT, "not only are the people starved for rock and roll...So are we. Let's eat."

Look for the Boston-based group to perform Saturday, December 1 at the Boston Music Awards at the Orpheum Theatre.

EXTREME Excitement Over BMA Rock Reunion

BostonHerald.com has issued the following report from Michael Marotta:

Twenty years ago, EXTREME was named "Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Band" at the Boston Music Awards.

And this weekend, the local rockers - except for drummer-turned-manager Paul Geary - will reunite and return to their rock ’n’ roll roots.

On Saturday, Nuno Bettencourt, Gary Cherone, Pat Badger and new sticksman Kevin Figueiredo will take the stage at the Orpheum to blow the roof off of the BMAs - the first step to a 2008 world reunion tour and new album.

“We weren’t gonna do it until we had a record out,” said the raspy-voiced Bettencourt from his home studio in Los Angeles. “But (AEROSMITH drummer and the BMAs honorary chairman) Joey Kramer reached out to us. He wanted to make the BMAs special like they used to be, so we figured why not?”

The as-yet-untitled studio album with all-new material - the band’s fifth - will drop sometime in spring 2008. A massive tour will follow, said Nuno.

Bettencourt described the new album as a “straight up rock record” that expands on Extreme’s funk-metal sound.

The new album was the key to getting back together as a full-time band, he said. Extreme did a handful of gigs this summer, including a gig at the Bank of America Pavilion in July, but Bettencourt wasn’t interested in becoming a permanent part of a nostalgia act.

“Even though we wanted to do something for years, we had to have something new to offer,” he said. “In the last six months we started writing some great songs. If they weren’t, we wouldn’t be doing this.”

EXTREME Finishing Up Recordings For New Release; Planning Tour

Boston-based rockers EXTREME have issued the following update from guitarist Nuno Bettencourt:

"Hey Everyone... Nuno here.

Thank you for all your support and great responses we've been getting on the forums and on Myspace. I just wanted to give you an update on what Extreme is up to…

We are now finishing up the recording of our new release... which BTW rocks. We had a great time jamming and creating. We ended up with about 24 tunes... which we dwindled down to the 14 that will be on the record. And I'm sure it's no surprise to you, our fans, that they are a "mish mosh" of Old School Rock and some tasty abstract ditties. As a band we always manage to be misfits in the midst of whatever music is out there. But I guarantee it will be delicious... we are very, very excited to share it with you. Both on record and live when we come to your town... and WE WILL. Yes... we plan to tour for at least 1 year, well probably 2 years... cause we've got alot of catching up to do with you guys and gals... And we can't fucking wait... Shit! There I go fucking swearing again... what a prick... anyways.

It's also great to welcome Kevin "FIGG" Figuieredo to the family. I could say lot's about Figg and what he brings to the intensity and sound of this band in 2008... but in the words of Joe Perry... I will "Let the music do the talking."

And when I speak about the Extreme family... I also want to mention that Paul Geary is still... very much a part of the family. I'm very excited to tell you that he will be involved in the managerial side of the band... working closely with us and new addition to our business team, Robby Hoffman... to help reclaim our block of land in the music ghetto.

Yes... Lock up your daughters and lock up your wife... Lock up your back door and run for your life. Cause once we move back in... We plan to be around for the rest of our days... God willing... how ever long that may be.

Well... that's it for now. Who ever is making the trip to LA to see us... see ya there and say hello. We will have a drink at the Hilton bar afterwards.

And for the rest of you see ya soon...

Oh yeah... and btw.

There is a film called Smart People coming out in April on Miramax... Check it out... it's a cool little quirky flick. I also happened to Score the music for the film... and there are also some tracks on there that Gary and I wrote.

Ok. on behalf of Pat, Gary and Kevin... Bye.

Nuno Duarte Gil Mendes Bettencourt."

sortie le 1er aout, le point sur melodic :

On August 1st, Extreme will release through Frontiers Records in Europe Saudades de Rock, their first studio album in thirteen years which will coincide with their first world tour in over twelve years.
The iconic rock foursome - vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo – recorded their fifth studio offering at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with Bettencourt at the helm as producer and mixer. “Saudades de Rock” boasts 13 tracks (plus one exclusive bonus track for the European edition, Americocaine demo 1985, the very first studio demo recording of Extreme) including the infectious roar of "Star," the groove-laden, swagger of "King", a raw funk rock anthem called "Learn To Love" and the expressive ballad "Ghost."
“A record is what makes a band vital”, says Bettencourt. “For the fans, it's like, 'Show me if you still got it.' And we've done that. I really think this is the best record we've ever done.”
Based on the enthusiasm of the rock aficionados and diehard fans that have followed the band since its self-titled debut, Extreme's 2008 'Take Us Alive' world tour is destined for success and will bring the band to an exclusive gig in Europe at Milan's Rock of Ages Festival on September 13. Showcasing material from the majestic new album and classics from discs like 1990's multi-platinum, “Pornograffitti”, not to mention 1992's critically acclaimed “III Sides to Every Story”, the members of Extreme are thrilled to be heading out on the road.
Saudades de Rock finds the men of Extreme excited to be back together and playing to their collective strengths. And clearly, the accomplishment is not lost on them. “It didn't take long for us to be reminded of what we were capable of,” Cherone enthuses. “We always knew Extreme was special. We always knew it was a matter of time.”
It's a sentiment that carries over to the title of Extreme's phenomenal new disc. “'Saudades' was always a beautiful word to me,” Nuno explains. “It expresses a longing; an underlying sadness for something or someone that's been missing in your life, and never quite sure if it will ever return. In this case, for us, it's Rock and Roll. Saudades de Rock.”
Saudades de Rock European track listing includes: Star; Comfortably Dumb; Learn To Love; Take Us Alive; Run; Last Hour; Flower Man; King Of The Ladies; Ghost; Slide; Interface; Sunrise; Peace (Saudade); Americocaine (demo 1985 – European bonus track).
Full streaming of Star will be available on the band and Frontiers' MySpace sites from Tuesday June 17.

Follow-up Press Release from band management / The First Single and Lead Track From Saudades de Rock Is Streaming On MySpace Now.
