| JOURNEY Announce New Singer
JOURNEY - Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) - is proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda (“pin-eh-da”). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons.
Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing Journey songs - in addition to original material - with his band, The Zoo, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland. Joining the legendary band is a dream come true for him.
“It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like ‘the voice’ (Steve Perry), but that will never happen. I know there's only one Steve Perry in this world.”
When it was time for Journey to look for a new lead singer, the internet came to their rescue. Guitarist Neal Schon wanted someone new to the music business, so he turned to YouTube. After finding Arnel singing 'Faithfully', he knew he had found the perfect frontman.
“I was frustrated about not having a singer,” explains guitarist Neal Schon, “so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, ‘he can’t be that good.’ But he is that good, he’s the real deal and so tremendously talented. Arnel doesn’t sound synthetic and he’s not emulating anyone. I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter.”
Arnel Pineda picks up the story: “My friend Noel picked up the message on YouTube and told me it was from Neal. I thought it was a hoax so I ignored it. Noel said, ‘what if it really was Neal and he wanted to offer you the chance of a lifetime?’ So I e-mailed Neal back and the rest is history.”
“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey,” continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.”
Schon agrees, “We feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. At first we were going to go into the studio and just write 4 songs, but now it’s escalated to a lot of great new and diverse material. The stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel.”
Journey is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008. Details will be announced early next year.

Producer Kevin Shirley posted another update about the pending Journey album on his diary: "Holed up mixing some live Journey stuff in preparation for their jumbo June 3rd release Revelation. Anyone interested knows by now, that it's a collection of 2 CD's and 1 DVD, but what has me the most excited about it, is the new album with eleven original tracks. Ballads, rockers, progressive pieces - even a gorgeous instrumental to close - and I think the fans, both old and new, will love hearing what I think is the best album from Journey since Escape. (I know press releases have hinted at these things before, but I wouldn't say it if i didn't believe it). Schon and Cain's playing and writing is tuned into some higher source on this one.... well, you'll see soon enough." The CD will be released June 3 exclusively to WalMart stores in North America. International dates and details have yet to be finalized. Stay tuned...

| la révélation de Frontiers, ou plutot le point sur le new Journey, prévu le 6 juin :
Frontiers Records is proud to present the new chapter in the legendary career of multi-Platinum US rockers Journey - Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda(vocals) – entitled “Revelation”.
“Revelation” tracklisting will include the following songs:
Cd1: Never Walk Away; Like A Sunshower; Change For The Better; Wildest Dream; Faith In The Heartland; After All These Years; Where Did I Lose Your Love; What I Needed; What It Takes To Win; Turn Down The World Tonight; The Journey (Revelation).
Cd2: Only The Young; Don't Stop Believin'; Wheel In The Sky; Faithfully; Any Way You Want It; Who's Crying Now; Separate Ways (Worlds Apart); Lights; Open Arms; Be Good To Yourself; Stone In Love.
The brand new record will come in a beautifully packaged two cd set which will include 11 new songs and 11 re-recorded classics and will be released in Europe on Frontiers Records on June 6th 2008.
“Revelation” is the first Journey album to feature the angelic voice of Philipino singer Arnel Pineda. Guitarist Neal Schon says about him “We feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. The new stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel”.
“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey”, continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.
The first album with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, “Revelation” is Journey running on no less than twelve cylinders, a fine-tuned offering that sounds every bit like a band hitting their stride. Schon and Cain penned all 11 of the new tracks on “Revelation”. There is no lack of chemistry in Journey, beginning with the songwriting core of Schon and Cain. “I felt strongly about moving forward and writing new material. It was time,” Schon states. Schon then put the call into Cain and started the song writing process which has now become the album, “Revelation”. “There’s an innate trust and respect for what we each do as we weave our way through this music,” says Cain. Schon adds, “In the alphabet, I might be a Z and Jonathan the A, that’s just how opposite we are musically sometimes. I write mostly rock and Jonathan writes most of the ballads, but when you combine the chemistry of us together, you’ll find that it is the nucleus and sound of what is and has been Journey. And now, with the right voice in place, we have all the right ingredients.
“Never Walk Away” kicks “Revelation” off with the resilient air and upbeat optimism fans have come to expect from Journey, a melody-soaked and guitar-driven anthem sure to ignite the live circuit just as it lights up the new release. The heartwarming sentiment offered by “Like a Sunshower” gives a more poetic and reflective look at relationships. It’s an uncharacteristic ballad from the more hard rock-inclined Schon. There’s even an instrumental, “The Journey (Revelation)”, at the request of producer Kevin Shirley, who returns to the fold after working with the band on “Trial By Fire” (1996) and “Arrival” (2000), the band’s first instrumental since “Departure” (1980) and “Evolution” (1979). “This is a special song for me”, Schon says of the sprawling track, “it was extremely gratifying to express myself on my instrument in this way”. This is a great performance from everyone in the band and truly a majestic track.
But every member of Journey shines on the whole of “Revelation”. Lead singer Arnel Pineda does plenty of head turning of his own throughout the new recordings, as well as the 11 classic hits that the band re-recorded. Jonathan Cain’s keyboards elevate “After All These Years” to new emotional heights. “What I Needed” is a power ballad, driven by heavy guitars, reminiscent of the early Journey that so many bands have modeled themselves after. Deen Castronovo drums up a frenzy during the hard-driving rock song, “Wildest Dream.” The talented Castronovo also sings most of the high harmonies heard throughout the album, proving that not only is he an amazing drummer, but he’s a dynamic vocalist as well. Schon’s smoking guitars rip through this track with a cool, eastern flavor. Bassist Ross Valory is steady throughout, a stabilizing force through the albums more driven highs and heartfelt lows.
Frontiers Records President Serafino Perugino comments: “Working again with Journey is more than an honour for us. I wish to thank all the parties that worked hard to make this release happen, including Gabe Reed Esq, Azoff Management and the band for the continued trust in our job”.
Journey will support the new album release in Europe with a highly anticipated tour which will include the following dates in June 2008:
6 La Riviera Madrid, Spain 10 Ewerk Koln, Germany 11 Schwarzwaldhalle Karlsruhe, Germany 13 Hessen State Fair, HombergEfze, Germany 14 Jako Arena Bamberg, Germany 15 Arrow Classic Festival, Holland 17 Hammersmith London, England 19 Apollo Manchester, England 20 Clyde Auditorium Glasgow, Scotland 22 Civic Theater Wolverhampton, England 23 Cardiff International Arena Cardiff, Wales 25 National Stadium Dublin, Ireland 27 Nottingham Arena Nottingham, England 28 Harewood House Harrogate, England
“Revelation” is the album to look for. The future looks bright once again.

| 107 000 copie écoulées la 1ere semaine, et n° 5 on the Billboard US Top 200 : Journey's new three-disc CD/DVD package Revelation has sold more than 107,000 copies in its debut week according to Wal-Mart Stores, marking the band's biggest first week's sales since 1996's Trial By Fire. Released June 3, Revelation is being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club in North America, Walmart.com and Samsclub.com, and Journey's official website, Journeymusic.com. Revelation's first week's sales marks a 1400% increase over the band's 2005's first week's sales of Generations. "We are thrilled with the early success of Journey's 'Revelation' music project, and clearly our customer is excited about it too,” said Jeff Maas, Divisional Merchandise Manager, Entertainment, Wal-Mart U.S. “We believe that if we continue to find innovative products, priced to showcase the value, our customers will show their excitement by purchasing the product. Journey has been great to work with and clearly this reflects a win for them and for our customer.” The first disc consists of 11 new songs, the second is filled with 11 re-recorded classics, and the third is a live, in-concert DVD. All of the music on Revelation was produced by Kevin Shirley (who previously worked with Journey on their Platinum-certified Trial By Fire album). Revelation marks a new chapter in the legendary career of multi-Platinum rockers Journey, thanks to two singles at Rock and AC radio (“Never Walk Away” and “After All These Years”) and rave reviews, including the New York Times who hailed: “…the band seems to have taken rock vitamins: it feels alive.” Journey-- Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda (vocals)is currently on a European tour through June 28. They'll start a massive summer U.S. tour with special guests Heart and Cheap Trick on July 9 in Denver, CO. For more information on Journey, visit www.journeymusic.com.Here's a little more chart info on Revelation that hasn't yet been printed. It looks like the chart position will be first week in at #5 on the Billboard US Top 200. But not only that, the CD is currently at #27 on the UK mid-week chart, with a final chart position due at the end of the week. Elsewhere in Europe the CD has entered charts in Norway (#97) and also the German Top 50 (exact position to be confirmed). And...I'm told European sales have already topped the total sales from Generations to date! Stay tuned for updates... | |

| JOURNEY Guitarist NEAL SCHON - "I Have Tried To Talk To STEVE PERRY Numerous Times; You'd Think That After A While, Everybody Would Grow Up" Following up his interview with ex- JOURNEY vocalist Steve Perry, Alex Pappademas recently spoke with guitarist Neal Schon for GQ to hear his side of the split between Perry and the band. Following is an excerpt from the interview: Q: You went on to make a string of hit records with Steve. You became one of the biggest bands in the world. And then you went on hiatus. What was the deal with that? Did you get burned out? Schon: "Well, of course, everybody gets burned, but I was like a machine out there. I loved touring. So I was ready to go, go, go, and I think pretty much everybody else in the band was. [After the Raised on Radio tour] Steve Perry just came up and said, 'Look, I'm burnt, I'm toast, I need to take a rest.' And so in the middle of a tour, he just pulled out. I believe we were in Hawaii. We hadn't finished the second leg of the tour. And so everybody packed their stuff, went home, and I'm hearing that we're gonna be off for maybe a couple months, three months, six months, whatever—but it turned out to be close to eight to ten years." Q: Did you feel like Journey had run its course? Schon: "No—I didn't think Journey was done. We actually never even quit. It wasn't like we called each other and went, 'Okay, this is history, nice knowin' ya.' It was just sort of left at a hiatus. And it was all based around Steve giving us a call and saying 'Okay, I'm fine now, I'm ready to go.' And it just didn't happen." Q: Was that frustrating for you, that he sort of pulled out like that? Schon: "Well, yeah. You work on something for so many years, and you attain what you attain, which was an amazing feat, and then it's sort of like the rug is pulled out from under you." Q: You and Steve don't talk, right? Is it safe to say that there's not communication between you anymore? Schon: "I have tried to talk to him, numerous times. And he will not allow me to have his number. Everything has to go through lawyers and management. And that is sort of a drag. You'd think that after a while, everybody would grow up and be able to talk, one on one. But it just hasn't happened. So, because of his wishes, that's the way things go down." Go to this location for the complete interview, which follows the in-depth discussion with Perry. | |
