| KAMELOT - One Cold Winter's Night DVD/CD Details Revealed; Artwork Available KAMELOT's first-ever DVD, entitled One Cold Winter's Night will be released via Steamhammer/SPV on October 30. The DVD was recorded on February 11, 2006 at the historic Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo, Norway. The band enlisted renowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus ( DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES) to chronicle the night's events. Bringing with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crew of professionals and equipment, including 18 cameras, that would be used in and around the concert grounds. The title for the band's first DVD to date (based on an earlier Kamelot song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot. Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest in the country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerous chaos-causing blizzards. One Cold Winter's Night will be available as a double DVD, double CD or a 2DVD/2CD doublepack with poster. The track listing is as follows: DVD 1 - 'Intro: Un Assasino Molto Silenzioso', 'The Black Halo', 'Soul Society', 'The Edge of Paradise', 'Center of the Universe', 'Nights Of Arabia', 'Abandoned', 'Forever', 'Keyboard Solo', 'The Haunting', 'Moonlight', 'When The Lights Are Down', 'Elizabeth (Part I, II & III)', 'March Of Mephisto', 'Karma', 'Drum Solo', 'Farewell', 'Curtain call/Outro'. DVD 2 - Behind the Scenes, Band interviews, Making of 'The Haunting', Up-close interview with Thomas Youngblood at home, Casey Grill at ddrum, Interview with Simone Simons from EPICA, Huge photo gallery, Band Bio and Top 5, Discography Videos - 'The Haunting', 'March Of Mephisto', 'March Of Mephist' (uncensored), 'Serenade', 'March Of Mephisto' live at Sweden Rock 2006 CD 1 - 'Intro: Un Assasino Molto Silenzioso', 'The Black Halo', 'Soul Society', 'The Edge Of Paradise', 'Center Of The Universe', 'Nights Of Arabia', 'Abandoned', 'Forever', 'Keyboard Solo', 'The Haunting', 'Moonlight'. | KAMELOT Guitarist Thanks Fans In Florida KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood has posted the following message at the band's website: "Mega thanks to all the fans at the Florida shows! We had an amazing time playing for fans from all over the world at the Florida shows. Of course all the fantastic fellow Floridians as well as fans from Germany, Lebanon, Japan, Greece, South America and more... It was our first time in South Florida and definitely not the last. I will try to check in from time to time throughout the tour!!" | KAMELOT – On The Road And In Your Home BW&BK scribe Mark Gromen caught up with KAMELOT when their current North American tour stopped in New York City to discuss the band's forthcoming DVD release, One Cold Winter's Night. The entire report appears below:
Second night of the tour, backstage at BB Kings, in NYC, founder/guitarist Thom Youngblood, bassist Glenn Barry, who insists on trying to open non-twist-off beers in his bare hands, and touring keyboardist Oliver Palotai (Doro/Blaze) talked to BW&BK about the impending release of One Cold Winter’s Night, the Floridian’s initial foray into the home video market.
“October 24th,” says the guitarist of a domestic release date. “It’s a double CD, double DVD. I don’t know about in North America, but in Europe it will have an 8-panel foldout (booklet/poster). The limited edition is 2 CDs/2DVDs boxed together, but you can also buy it separately. There is one extra song on the Japanese CD. There was a problem with the video part for that track. We have 90 minutes of concert, so to just throw that song on there, didn’t make sense. It was filmed in Oslo. Weren’t you there? It was cold, sold-out and (Dutch progsters) Epica was there with us. Patrick Ullaeus (Dimmu Borgir, Evergrey, In Flames, Lacuna Coil) shot it. Considering the budget, we’re definitely thrilled with it.”
As to the choice of locale, it was more than simply Norway being vocalist Roy Khan’s homeland. “We definitely wanted Patrick (a Swede) to shoot it. Doing it in Brazil, the companies that we would have had to use, we didn’t feel totally confident with. We were going to shoot it in Antwerp, but to get Patrick over there would have been more expensive. Roy thought we should do it in Norway because since he lives there, he could help organize things.”
Detractors have already complained about the heavy emphasis on the last pair of albums, at the expense of their early works. The Fourth Legacy’s ‘Nights Of Arabia’ is the oldest offering and alongside the ‘Elizabeth’ trio, ‘Forever’ and the title cut off Karma, the only material pre-dating the Epica/Black Halo concept albums.
“I’ve seen a few of those,” remarks Youngblood, apparently referring to Internet gossip, as the discs have yet to be issued, even to reviewers. “People are always dwelling on negative comments, not the positive. Part of (not having more oldies) is because those songs are copywritten as part of the Sanctuary deal. Every song we play from the back catalog, we have to pay a lot of money for. Would we have added more? I don’t know, but we certainly spent a lot of money on the ones that are there! We still have people coming to the shows asking why we don’t play ‘Eternity’ (title track of the ’95 debut). Like three people in the whole crowd would know that song. Most of the fans are from the last three or four records. We want to make sure we play the songs we want to play, they want to hear and Roy wants to sing. We can basically play any song, but the demands on a vocalist live, you have to pace yourself and sing what you like. The vocals on those first two records are different and Roy doesn’t really want to sing the songs Mark (Vanderbilt, original Kamelot vocalist) sang on.”
Kamelot is in the midst of a North American tour, something of a luxury, given the fact the band had only played a handful of dates outside Florida prior to the current run. “We’re doing 19 dates in North America. Last time it was four or five shows. The show yesterday, we had twice as many as last time and tonight it’s probably 700 or 800. Canada’s going to be crazy. They’re expecting 900, maybe a thousand in Montreal! I think you know me. I don’t stress about things I can’t control.”
One thing within his grasp was choice of opening act, enter longtime friends Epica (the Dutch outfit took their name from a Kamelot platter! “I guess I did,” recalls Youngblood of the decision. “I asked Mark if he was interested, because I knew they were going to play ProgPower (in Atlanta), so it kind of made sense to tour at that same time. We’ve played a lot of shows together. We did the whole European tour and parts of South America together. Everyone gets along pretty well.”
The band has got a lot of mileage out of The Black Halo, not surprisingly, Youngblood is in the process of constructing the follow-up. “It’s about 70% done. I think we’re ahead of the game, this time around. Hopefully it will be out April 2007. Right now, the idea is that it will be a regular album, but once we start talking about the lyrics, it might evolve into something (else). People seem to be real interested in (concepts). Some though The Fourth Legacy was a concept album, but it wasn’t. There always is a thread between all the songs.”
Adds Barry, to his bandmate, “I think people are expecting that from you now on every album. Once you start it, you keep telling a story, but eventually, it has to end.”
Returning to future endeavors, the guitarist concludes, “We’ve already started booking shows for Europe. We’re going to hinge it around the ProgPower UK festival we’re going to do with Jon Oliva (Savatage, fellow Sunshine Stater). Hopefully we’ll come back (on tour in) the States sometime after the summer, next year.”
See them now, or you’ll have to wait a while!
Remaining dates on the tour are as follows:
