QUEEN Drummer Roger Taylor & Son Live This Weekend; More Details
QUEEN Drummer Roger Taylor 105185

QUEEN's official website, QueenOnline.com, has issued the following press release:

Like Father….

Queen’s Roger Taylor to perform with son Rufus Taylor this Saturday at O2 indigO2 Venue

Queen drummer Roger Taylor is the latest famous musician to have his son follow in his footsteps. Taylor’s 17-year-old son, Rufus Taylor, is to join his father on stage for the first time when the two will make a special appearance at London’s indigO2 venue at London’s O2 this weekend.

Taylor and his drummer son will appear as special guests at Queen music director Spike Edney’s SAS Band Ultimate Rock Party concert this Saturday January 24th, which sees Edney’s band perform with a veritable Who’s Who of rock and pop names including Roy Wood (WIZARD, THE MOVE), Madeline Bell (BLUE MINK), Graham Gouldman (10CC), Chris Thompson (MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND) Jeff Scott Soto (JOURNEY) Patti Russo (MEAT LOAF) and TOYAH WILCOX.

Also appearing will be Work Superbike Champion James Toseland with his band CRASH who will open the show.

The young Rufus Taylor has been learning his father’s skill almost since he was able to pick up a drum stick. Rufus’ first big public appearance was in December’s Royal Variety Show when he backed Queen’s Brian May and singer Kerry Ellis on their performance of the May produced track ‘Defying Gravity’.

Rufus spends much time working in father Roger Taylor’s recording studio and has no doubts about the fact that he intends to follow a professional career as a drummer. The young Rufus is even considering an offer to be resident drummer in the house band for the up-coming touring production of the Queen musical, We Will Rock You.

Queen’s keyboard player since 1984 and music director on the band’s two recent concert tours, Edney formed his SAS Band in 1994 as a means of bringing together his musician friends together to celebrate their love of music and performing. Events come together when Spike sends out an email to all his musician friends asking ‘who’s up for having some fun?”. His most recent surprise guest was Jack Bruce of CREAM; others have included LIONEL RICHIE, CHAKA KHAN, and BOB GELDOF, to name a few.

The SAS New Year Bash – The Ultimate Rock Party is Edney’s aim at providing an antidote to the post Christmas and New Year blues: “The start of the year is always something of a downer for most people, more-so in this current climate. Roger, Rufus and this great line-up are coming together to hopefully provide a night to rock off those winter blues and enjoy some of the best music of our times.”

The SAS Band with Roger Taylor, Rufus Taylor and a host of artists – this Saturday, January 24th, at indigO2, the intimate live entertainment venue at London’s O2, Greenwich, SE10.

Tickets: £27.50 and £45.00.
