| THE AGONIST - Two New Songs Available For Streaming, New Promo Picture Gallery Available THE AGONIST out of Montreal, Quebec have posted two new songs from their forthcoming album, Lullbies For A Dormant Mind, on their official MySpace page. Go to this location to check out 'The Tempest' and 'Martyr Art'. In addition, the band has uploaded a new gallery of promotional photos. Check them out here. As previously reported, the tracklist for the new album is as follows: 'The Tempest ( The Siren's Song, The Banshee's Cry)', 'And Their Eulogies Sang Me To Sleep', 'Thank You, Pain', 'Birds Elope With The Sun', 'Waiting Out The Winter', 'Martyr Art', 'Globus Hystericus', 'Swan Lake' (acapella), 'The Sentient', 'When The Bough Breaks', 'Chlorpromazine'. According to BW&BK's Carl Begai "the new Agonist album is a huge step up from the debut, Once Only Imagined. Unlike the first record, which was bogged down by a poor track sequence, Lullabies For A Dormant Mind goes for the throat from the very first track ('The Tempest') and doesn't let up for a moment (with the exception of a welcome acapella version of Tchaikowsky's 'Swan Lake' by vocalist Alissa White-Gluz). The vocals are the obvious focal point, and Alissa has upped her growls and shrieks to an Angela Gossow level. Her clean voice is untouchable. As a unit The Agonist have learned their lessons well. The guitar work is technically superior to the debut without going prog-metal cold, the occasional use of keyboard enhancement and vocal atmospherics is startling but effective, and the drums quite honestly have to be heard to be believed. From old school thrash to black metal blastbeats, drummer Simon McKay attacks with skullcrushing Kataklysm-ic abandon; Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy wishes he could play like this, and he's a monster behind the kit. Any lingering screamo comparisons will die with the release of Lullabies For A Dormant Mind." | |
