APOCALYPTICA To Perform At The 2007 Eurovision Song Contest Final
BW&BK has received the following press release:
Finland's APOCALYPTICA, the three-cello band, which has climbed to international success, will perform at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest Final. Eicca Toppinen has adapted from old and previously unheard material a set which is part of the interval spectacle in the final. In addition to Eicca Toppinen, the band consists of Paavo Lotjonen and Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén. YLE has invited a number of Finnish front row artists and creators from Finland and abroad to participate in creating the show for the Semi-Final and Final. The participants include musicians, composers, dancers, singers and circus artists. The linking denominator in the programme is Finland and Finnishness, the contrasts of nature, culture, humans etc.
The final opens the doors to the direction LORDI has marked out. The final promises fantasy and rock. As last year’s winner, Lordi, will naturally participate in the event and will open the final. Director Minna Vainikainen is responsible for the manuscript and direction of the final's Interval show in which the stage is taken by Apocalyptica. The fierce music also encloses beauty and tenderness. Director Tiina Puumalainen is responsible for the manuscript and direction of the Semi-Final's opening. The choreography is by the dance partners Sirpa Suutari-Jääskö and Jukka Haapalainen who also participate in the show itself.
The music was composed by accordionist Johanna Juhola, who has been breaking new ground in music. The Semi-Final’s interval show will feature Tsuumi, combining traditional and modern folk dance. The choreography and direction is by Matti Paloniemi, who has also written the manuscript for the show with Tiina Puumalainen. The music is directed by composer and musician Hannu Kella. Both shows are visually spectacular, thanks among other things to costumes created by costume designer Erika Turunen of the Finnish National Opera. The complete list of artists and creators will be available on yle.fi/eurovision during the Eurovision week.
