| VELVET REVOLVER's Matt Sorum - "This Album Is Going To Rock"
VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum has posted the following message on his official blog:
"Just wanted to say sorry for not being on The Sorum Forum in awhile. Went out on the road for a few shows. We have been working on writing the album most of the summer and needed to get out. It was fun, short but enough to inspire us to get the live feel again. We had been working in my studio but are now In a live rehearsal space. Coming up with some great jams. I am sorry we didn't play any new material on the five dates that we did play. The band wants the new stuff to be the best it can be before we let it out. Anyway plan on writing all of September and part of October then in the studio. That is the plan, so if it takes a little longer trust me it will be worth the wait. This album is going to rock. Thank you all for your patience!!!!"
As previously reported, Velvet Revolver have been in talks with producer Rick Rubin (SLAYER, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS). Sorum told ABC Radio recently: "Hopefully he's gonna come on board, because I think he's just a great song guy." The band's new album, Libertad, will be issued sometime in 2007 via RCA.

| Report: VELVET REVOLVER "Pretty Far" Into New Album
Launch Radio Networks has issued the following report from Don Kaye:
VELVET REVOLVER took the better part of a year to start working on its sophomore album, but now that recording is finally underway, things are really beginning to roll. We checked in with lead singer Scott Weiland and asked him how far the group has gotten since entering the studio:
"Pretty far, actually. We've been here at the old A&M studios (in Los Angeles) for about two-and-a-half weeks and we've recorded all basic tracks and we've already started guitar overdubs and we've done, I've cut a bunch of vocals on numerous songs. In two-and-a-half weeks."
Weiland also told us that the new album, which will follow up the band's 2004 debut Contraband, will still be called Libertad.
The group is recording with producer Brendan O'Brien, who's worked with AUDIOSLAVE, PEARL JAM and Weiland's former group, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. An initial stint with producer Rick Rubin did not work out.
Velvet Revolver hopes to release Libertad in late April or early May. Weiland is also working on his second solo album, which he said will surface sometime in 2008 on his own label, Softdrive Records.
Meanwhile, Weiland posted an "open letter" online earlier this week to University of Notre Dame head football coach Charlie Weis, imploring Weis not to leave Notre Dame for a rumored offer to coach the New York Giants. Weiland's father played football for Notre Dame and Weiland himself played football well into his high school years.

| VELVET REVOLVER Frontman Takes Aim At Football
Launch Radio Networks has issued the following report from Don Kaye
VELVET REVOLVER frontman SCOTT WEILAND is passionate about two things: rock music and football.
With the college season and NFL regular season completed, and rumors already flying about coaches being fired and hired, Weiland posted an open letter online this week imploring Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis not to take a job coaching the New York Giants if it was offered to him. While the job didn't materialize, Weiland told us that he's still worried about the state of college football:
"Professional football has proven over the last 20 years that there's no more loyalty because of free agency. Once the loyalty is gone in college football, in college sports, then that's when I just stop becoming a sports fan. Once you cannot bank on loyalty and a handshake anymore in college sports, then you know what? F*** it."
Weiland's father played for Notre Dame and Weiland told us that he himself played football well into his high school years.
Velvet Revolver recently began recording its sophomore album, titled Libertad, with producer Brendan O'Brien, who's worked with AUDIOSLAVE, PEARL JAM and Weiland's former group, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.
Velvet Revolver hopes to release Libertad in late April or early May and hit the road shortly after that.

| VELVET REVOLVER "Uninspired" Working With Rick Rubin
Launch Radio Networks has issued the following report from Don Kaye:
VELVET REVOLVER initially began working on it's second album last year with Rick Rubin, the superstar producer who's currently overseeing METALLICA and LINKIN PARK, and who has produced AUDIOSLAVE, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, JOHNNY CASH, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and many others.
But the band parted with Rubin after a brief time and hired Brendan O'Brien instead. Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland told us why his band and Rick Rubin were not a good match: "If you're gonna work with a producer, unless you're gonna produce something yourselves, if you're gonna pay a producer, get in the trenches with us and work with us. The Rick thing didn't work out, and, you know, he was working on a couple of other things, Metallica and U2, and so we kind of became very uninspired."
Brendan O'Brien has also worked with Audioslave, Pearl Jam and Weiland's former group, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.
Velvet Revolver hopes to release its sophomore CD, titled Libertad, in late April or early May. Weiland is also working on his second solo album, which he said will surface sometime in 2008 on his own label, Softdrive Records.

VELVET REVOLVER To Perform For And Induct VAN HALEN Into Rock Hall
Launch Radio Networks has issued the following report from Bruce Simon:
VELVET REVOLVER has been tapped for VAN HALEN's induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The band will perform in Van Halen's place, and singer Scott Weiland and guitarist Slash will speak on Van Halen's behalf. For now, it doesn't look like DAVID LEE ROTH and SAMMY HAGAR will join Velvet Revolver onstage, and Michael Anthony hasn't commented yet. It's still unknown whether Eddie and Alex Van Halen will attend the ceremony.
Velvet Revolver just finished recording their new album, titled Libertad. It should be out this summer, and the band has South American dates with AEROSMITH in April and a possible US tour in May.
Hagar had originally told us that he thought the job of inducting Van Halen into the Rock Hall would go to his friend and sometime drummer Chad Smith's group: "I was told that they were gonna get the Chili Pepp -- trying to get the (Red Hot) Chili Peppers to induct us. And I shouldn't, maybe shouldn't be saying this (chuckles), but... letting the cat out of the bag... I said, 'Chad, I think they're gonna ask you guys to do it.'He's going, 'Great, man!'(laughs)" )
Smith regularly joins Hagar onstage at the singer's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico, and Hagar told us that he, Smith, and Michael Anthony are thinking about making a record under the name CHICKEN FOOT.

| Exhaustion Almost Split VELVET REVOLVER
According to Contactmusic.com, VELVET REVOLVER almost split after their last tour because the bandmates were exhausted and hated each other. Bassist Duff McKagan claims that if it hadn't been for a much needed break, the rock super group would have disbanded. He tells Britain's Kerrang magazine, "We went through a lot of crap the last year and a half. "We'd been touring for 15 months, Matt (Sorum - drummer) had broken his hand and we were at each other's throats because we were so tired. "When we finally got done touring we didn't want to see each other."
He's glad the group reconvened after a lengthy break, but admits the reunion was more than a little difficult: "It was really, really tough getting us back together into a place where our headspace was right to be able to start a new record. "We were all pretty fragmented, writing off in different camps but what we do best is write together. It took us a while to get back to where we were feeling good, and we finally got that back last July and August."

| Report: VELVET REVOLVER Sets July Release Date For Libertad
Billboard.com has issued the following report from Jonathan Cohen:
After scrapping the original May 29th release date, VELVET REVOLVER has settled on July 3rd to unveil its second RCA album, Libertad. Impacting in mid-May, the first single from the set will be 'She Builds Quick Machines', one of the four new tracks the group has been playing of late during shows in South America.
"RCA did a bunch of research on what the first single should be," bassist Duff McKagan told Billboard.com last night (April 16th) before a gig in Buenos Aires. "I'm pretty anti that stuff. The band had something they wanted to go with, but RCA just kept coming with it. So we decided, it's fine. It's a great f*ckin' rock song. It has a kick-ass guitar riff, a great chorus, a really big bridge and a great Slash solo."
McKagan is also high on 'Last Fight', which he calls "a mid-tempo, really beautiful song; probably something you wouldn't expect from us," as well as 'She Mine', described as "a fun pop ditty."
"I think Contraband was a great record," he says of Velvet Revolver's 2004 debut. "It was the right one for us to make as our first record. But Libertad really goes way beyond that musically. I don't think any of us could have made a better record at this point in our careers."
As previously reported, the group was planning to record Libertad with producer Rick Rubin but found itself at odds with his approach. Brendan O'Brien ultimately produced the album.
"We all went to dinner last August and shook on it," McKagan recalls of Rubin. "At that point, we had 30 songs. He came down the second week of September and said, 'Okay great guys, now write some more songs.' So we wrote more songs. Another month later, he was like, 'Okay great, write some more songs.' We got up to 50 songs! When somebody tells you to write more songs, you start thinking, 'Well, all of our sh*t sucks.' It's not a good place for a band like us to be at."
"Rick is a great guy," he continues. "We've all known him for a long time. But we just decided, maybe next record, or some other time." Once O'Brien took over, "he inspired all of us to dig in to the parts," McKagan says. "None of us were afraid to bring anything new to the table."
Velvet Revolver begins a short North American tour May 3rd in Los Angeles, and European festival dates are on tap through early July. McKagan says fans can expect songs from its members' old bands (GUNS N' ROSES, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) to crop up occasionally, but less frequently than in Velvet Revolver's early days, when it barely had enough originals to play a headlining set.
"I don't know whether we'll do it the whole tour or once in awhile," he says. "But I know people like to hear them and sometimes we really like to play them. It's songs we wrote, so why not?"

| VELVET REVOLVER Postpone Irvine, CA Show Due To Wildfires
BW&BK has received the following press release:
VELVET REVOLVER has postponed its headlining concert tomorrow night, Friday, October 26th at the outdoor Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA due to the devastating Southern California wildfires. This includes the fire in the city of Irvine where evacuations have taken place and the Irvine School District has closed all schools on Friday due to poor air quality. The rescheduled show - with ALICE IN CHAINS, who were also set to play the Irvine gig - will take place Wednesday, December 12th at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles after Velvet Revolver return from their tour of Japan and Australia.
Fans holding tickets for the October 26th Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre show that were purchased at Ticketmaster retail outlets or at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre box office can exchange them for tickets to the new venue at the Gibson Amphitheatre box office starting Monday, November 5th. The Gibson Amphitheatre box office is open Monday through Saturday from 1pm to 8:45pm.
Fans who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone will automatically receive tickets to the Gibson Amphitheatre December 12th show by mail. For those unable to attend the new date and new facility, refunds are available at point-of-purchase.
Velvet Revolver send their sincerest thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected by the tragic fires in Southern California, where the Governor has issued a State of Emergency for seven counties including Orange County. The Irvine fire has left the air quality extremely poor and there is concern that the county’s resources - police, fire and medical - will be spread much too thin and thus compromise a safe environment for the fans.
