NIGHTWISH Schedule Signing Session At Swedish Metal Expo

Swedish Metal Expo (www.swedishmetalexpo.se ) is scheduled for September 1st - 2nd at Fryshuset in Stockholm (Sweden).

NIGHTWISH will attend to this year's event to sign their brand new single 'Amaranth'. The signing session will start at 2:15 PM (CET) on September 1st.

NIGHTWISH Schedule New Jersey Instore Appearence

NIGHTWISH will be holding a special in-store performance at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, New Jersey on October 19th at 6 PM. Preorder their upcoming CD, Dark Passion Play here to get a wristband which will guarantee admittance to the instore.

Dark Passion Play will be released by Roadrunner in North America on Tuesday, October 2nd. This album will be released in two configurations - the single-disc standard version and 2-CD Special Edition which will contain one bonus track on the first disc and a second CD comprised of orchestral versions of every song on the album.

NIGHTWISH Release Finland's Costliest Album Ever

"Hang on a sec, you can ask Jukka", says NIGHTWISH manager Ewo Pohjola over the phone. The question was one about the overall cost of the band’s new album Dark Passion Play, which will be released in stores - at least in Finland - on September 26th (October 2nd in North America).

There’s something almost sweet and cottage-industry-like about it: this is allegedly Finland’s most expensive recording of all time, and the budget-related answers are being given by the power metal band’s drummer. Jukka Nevalainen is responsible for this particular family’s financial affairs. “Roughly half a million”, says Nevalainen. “We don’t know ther exact sum down to the euros and cents as yet.”

Half of the cost of the CD was racked up in London, at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in St. John’s Wood. Over the space of eight days, the London Session Orchestra, the Metro Voices Choir, a gospel choir, and a couple of Irish musicians were recorded in the studio.

The other half of the costs were taken up in Finland, and were spent over a considerably longer space of time.
“We were in the studio from September [2006] to June”, says Tuomas Holopainen, Nightwish’s leader, songwriter, and keyboards player.

Holopainen is sitting on a sofa in Akun Tehdas (Aku’s Factory), a studio and general audio-visual-cluster complex in Tampere, where Nightwish have been rehearsing in advance of their upcoming world tour.

Ten whole months in the studio! But then again, practically all the numbers associated with this sixth full-length studio album are huge. Nearly 130 musicians all told. As many as 250 separate recording tracks...

Nightwish is paying the bills for the recording work through its own company Scene Nation (set up in 2003) and has sold the licence on to the US/German label Nuclear Blast. The same arrangements were used on the previous album Once (2004), which reportedly cost around EUR 240,000 to make.

NIGHTWISH Perform At Dark Passion Play Release Party In Germany

Nuclear Blast Germany reports:

"The "Japanese NIGHTWISH cover band" SUSHI PATROL, that was supposed to play at the Dark Passion Play release party in Hamburg on September 28th, turned out to be the real NIGHTWISH.

They played a phenomenal gig in front of 500 hungry people (the location was sold out). It was only the third concert with Anette on vocals and the first one in Germany at all!

The fan reactions were amazing. During the concert, a Nuclear Blast representative handed over a cheque of 10,000 Euros to the german Child Charity Foundation Die Arche (The Arch). It was agreed that all the income from the European downloads of the internet-only single 'Eva' would be donated to this foundation.

The next day, the band had a glorious singing session at the Saturn store in Hamburg which was attended by 800 fans. The people had the chance to get their purchased copies of the new album Dark Passion Play signed directly."

As previously reported, EnterTheVault.com has confirmed May 22nd as the first date for NIGHTWISH' spring 2008 North American trek.

On May 22nd, Nightwish will perform at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA.

NIGHTWISH Concert In Finland Interrupted By Fire; All OK!

This evening's sold-out NIGHTWISH performance at the Paviljonik Arena, in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland was delayed due to fire erupting on the venue's ceiling. Although 6,000 fans were evacuated, neither band nor fans sustained any injuries. Eventually, the show went off without a hitch, although in the confusion, some outside were (mistakenly) told the show was cancelled and to return home, thus missing the show. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, although early reports target on-going construction or a possible tarp over the beer cart.

NIGHTWISH - First Hand Account Of Fire Incident

As previously reported, the Friday, December 14th gig by NIGHTWISH at the Paviljonik Arena, in the city of Jyväskylä, Finalnd was interrupted by a non-lethal fire. According to eyewitness accounts, the show was stopped three songs into the evening, by an announcement for everyone to "calmly move outside." They were informed of a fire in the building and ultimately, confined to the roof. Fans had to actually leave the venue TWICE, as an inadvertent "all clear" was premature, and the audience fled the building for a second time. Some left for home, despite having queued up in frosty temperatures for more than 12 hours, to get to the front rail of the general admission seating. After a quick sound-check, the show resumed, Marco Hietala (bass/vocals) asking the crowd, 'Are you still on flames?' followed by the re-entrance of the entire band.

NIGHTWISH - Chinese Show Upgraded, Support Act Announced

NIGHTWISH will perform their first shows in mainland China next week. The Shanghai (January 23rd) show has been upgraded to the Hongkou Indoor Colesium. Support for that show, as well as the Beijing debut (January 21) will come from female-fronted Italian power metallers SKYLARK. Divine Gates, Part 3, the latest from Skylark will be released in North America on Feb. 5th, through Arizona-based Renaissance Record. BW&BK will be in attandance! NIGHTWISH Nominated In Five Categories For Finland's "Emma" Awards; Also Up For "Echo" Award

Finnish metallers NIGHTWISH have issued the following update:

"Nightwish is nominated in five different categories for the Finnish "Emma" award. The categories are: "Band Of The Year", "Best Metal Album" (Dark Passion Play), "Best Album" (Dark Passion Play), "Song Of The Year" (Amaranth), "Best Finnish artist".

The Emma-gala takes place on 8th of March in Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki.

Additionally, Nightwish has been nominated for the German "Echo" award in the "Rock/Alternative (international)" category.

The Echo award ceremony will take place on February 15th in Berlin.

NIGHTWISH - Tonight's Show In Hartford Cancelled

"The Mexico City airport staff left the four most important cases of our backline in Mexico, so the show tonight in Hartford will be cancelled.

NIGHTWISH - Tuomas Holopainen To Produce INDICA Record

Founder/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen has been slated to produce the next album for Finnish Girl band INDICA (who opened for NIGHTWISH on their Scandinavian tour). The band has issued the following statement:

"Wild and Passionate Love in Hollola

The recording of the new Indica album, to be released in September, is in full swing. The record is produced by the handsome and prestigious Nightwish-hoodlum, Tuomas Holopainen.

Cooperation already began before Christmas, when Indica and Nightwish toured together. Perfect harmony was attained in a demo session in Kerava, when the charming recorder, Tero Kinnunen, picked up a pistol and threatened to shoot the Indica member playing the worst. There followed several torturously long days with Tuomas, in a 10 square meter rehearsal space, surrounded by coffee cup towers. The cozy atmosphere was increased by a coffee-stain molding contest.

There sure is a great crew behind the album.

In the beginning we were concerned about getting our schedules to concur, given that Nightwish is touring, but everyone unanimously agreed to sell their souls to this project. The only leisure requirement was 2 laundry days for Tuomas, which was granted by the Indica council.

The album was mostly recorded at E-Major in Kerava, and at Petrax in Hollola, where one can definitely escape from his or her daily routine. In Petrax we were also witnesses to wild and passionate love, when Sirkku's dog, Gunther, lost his heart to Heini's dog, Köpi. Due to indecent conduct and continuous sexual harassment, Gunther was sent home to languish in love. He was also the first member of the crew to get a lifelong ban from Indica's studio sessions.

And regarding the music, the new album swings like a galloping moose."

NIGHTWISH Announce Fall Tour; Digital-Only B-Sides Release

Roadrunner Records Canada reports:

"Finland's NIGHTWISH will once again tour US soil, hitting all major markets and cities along the way. The band will bring its massively popular yet refreshingly unique blend of progressive Euro metal, fueled by the siren-like vocals of Anette Olzon, to North American shores for the third and final trek in support of last year's Dark Passion Play, which has sold nearly 75,000 copies since its September 2007 release.
