TESLA - New Studio Album Due Out By Fall 2008

TESLA - New Studio Album T77853 Komodo Rock correspondent Krissy Elliott recently caught up with TESLA bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Dave Rude. The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Krissy Elliott: Let's talk about what you have been doing recently. All this touring and everything that you’ve been doing and about the new album that apparently will be coming out.

Brian Wheat: "Well the new album is out. It’s been out for a while. It’s called Real to Reel. So the first question is, why have you done a covers record? And the answer, or one of the answers, is sitting next to me which is Dave Rude. The new guitar player in Tesla. Because Tommy Skeoch can no longer keep his demons away, shall we say, I have to be very politically correct how I answer this question, it was decided mutually that it was better for Tommy to stay home. So we met young Dave on MySpace. Or rather Frank did. And he joined the band. So, as he had joined the band we went out and played a bunch of shows in America in 05 or 06. It was time to go and do a new record. We started our own record label, Tesla Electric Company Recordings, so it was thought that instead of going in and making a brand new Tesla all original new record, for the new member and launching the new label for the first time that we have a bit of fun. Do a covers record and for Dave to learn how to blow it to the record industry and that’s why we did that."

Krissy Elliott: And has it been well received? How have people responded?

Brian Wheat: "Critically it has been really well received. It hasn’t done as well as say Into The Now but then again it is a covers record and there's been lots of covers records. But you know we had a lot of fun doing it and the people that have it really enjoy it."

Dave Rude: "We’re going to start writing a new studio album in December, a couple of months after we get home. Brian’s got a real nice recording studio up in Sacramento so we’re all just going to go in there and start writing a bunch of songs. We’ve already been working on ideas and demos on the road and it already sounds pretty cool so we’re all excited. It will be out in 08. Probably in the fall. Maybe in the summer, but more likely in the fall."

TESLA - New Studio Album 78039

As reported earlier today, Tesla have released a new seven-track EP called A Peace Of Time - an iTunes exclusive.

According to a band update, the EP is a "seven-song taste of music that was recorded live in the studio and features recordings of Tesla’s own songs in a different fashion as well as a few covers that we love. Set to be released for the Holiday season, there is a recording of the Christmas classic 'Silent Night' and alternate recordings of Tesla classics."

Tracks with band commentary include:

'I Love You' (CLIMAX BLUES BAND)
'This track was the first song that Tesla recorded in the studio together when reuniting in 2000 after the five-year break-up. JK asked the band to record this song to be played at his wedding."

'Everything I Own (BREAD)
"Another beautiful love song, this song really showcases JK’s vocal ability and Tesla’s ability to 'own' a classic cover. Transposed using a capo and teslafied during the guitar solo, this track captures Tesla chemistry."

'Signs' (FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND)
"This is a very raunchy version of our top 10 hit recorded 'live' in the studio with a little more grit and attitude than the 5 man “acoustic” version."

'The Way It Is'
"We recorded this version in the studio after coming home from the Canadian 'acoustic' tour. It is a stripped down version and we opted to sing it a bit lower to make it more soulful and played the guitar parts with a softer touch."

'What You Give'
"Not much to say about this track except it is one of our favourite songs we’ve written and our fans seem to love it as much if not more today than ever. This recording is a Hybrid version of acoustic and electric complete with the guitar solo being played acoustically and the twangy country licks complementing Jeff Keith’s soulful lyrics."

I’d Love To Change The World (TEN YEARS AFTER)
"A Great song! This track was originally considered for the Real To Reel set list but somehow got left behind. This is a “live” demo version recorded in the studio and we wanted to convey a fierce 'Guitar' battle between Frank and Tommy. There is a lot of aggression in the music and JK put some serious vibes in the vocals."

'Silent Night' (acoustic solo)
"This recording is an acoustic arrangement put together by Frank Hannon as a bonus track for the EP’s release in December for Christmas. The melody is beautiful and is reminiscent of Tesla’s 'Love Song' intro with classical guitar lines and finger picking. To add to the arrangement, there are dobro slide parts and a mandolin outro added to enhance the holiday spirit. Enjoy!"

TESLA Bassist To Guest On The Classic Metal Show Next Weekend

TESLA - New Studio Album T78792 The Classic Metal Show - heard live weekly on Saturdays from 9 PM - 3 AM (EST) at www.theclassicmetalshow.com - have issued the following preview of their upcoming December 8th show:

"As we wind down the year, it looks like we're going to spend the last two live shows of the year talking to TESLA. In this week's run, bassist Brian Wheat will be checking in to talk about the brand new, iTunes exclusive release A Peace Of Time. The latest release cleans out the closet for them with a few more covers, some acoustic stuff and some live stuff from the band. We'll do a New Music Listening Party for A Peace Of Time, and Brian will talk about Tesla and what's coming for 2008.

Additionally, we'll feature a couple of bands that are new to the show. First and foremost, we'll check in with the band DOGPOUND. Their melodic hard rock and metal sound fits perfectly for the show, so we'll do a New Music Listening Party for the III release, and we'll have someone from the band call in to introduce Dogpound to the CMS for the first time.

Finally, we'll bring a new band that features an all star cast called EMPIRE. comprised of members and former members of bands like WHITESNAKE, TARJA TURUNEN and more, this melodic rock band paints a new face on the classic sound with their album Chasing Shadows. We'll do a New Music Listening Party for Chasing Shadows, and we'll be catching up with the band to talk about how this supergroup came together."
