Damaged Angels Gig Review September 10th 2008
One of the UKs newest and hottest girl rock bands the Damaged Angels took to the stage last night at Newcastle's very own head of steam playing to a packed out crowd with their very own blend of sleazy rock and roll music.
Despite only being together 7 months the all girl rock band have recieved rave reviews from audiences playing a host of gigs all around the UK. Describing themselves as like no other band you will come across the girls said "theyre are far too many girls out there playing in manufactured pop groups, if more girls played their own instruments, wrote their own songs and played in a real band then the world would be a better place". Looking like an all girl Motley Crue with big hair and cowboy boots they are out to prove that they can rock just as hard as the boys. Having seen a decline in the past few years in all girl rock bands the Damaged Angels belive they have got what it takes to fill this gap in the market. "We are deadly serious" they said, "and when were up on stage we want to give the audience something to remember"
After having there recent single Sexual Predator recieving great feedback and airplay from radio stations throughout the country the girls have been hard at work on putting together more and more songs for the upcoming debut LP. Most recently they have posted their new single Prozac girl onto their myspace page and are looking forward to playing the new song live. They've played a whole host of gigs in the past few months with more and more people picking up on the band and winning a recent battle of the bands contest for teenage cancer trust the band has gone from strength to stregth, and with a tour lined up things are really looking up for the girls.
Well tonight the girls took to the stage a little after 9 o clock getting straight into their first song Sexual Predator followed by Queens of Shit and Dead Girls. The girls looked very comfortable on stage connecting well with the audience. Tonight the groups set featured a mixture of origninal songs and covers but they hope to eventually include more of their own songs into there set. Lead singer Steph sang with great confidence and a good stage presence. Bass player Robyn seemed to come out of herself as the songs went on, and by the end was spinning around on the floor in front of an extatic crowd. Drummer Rachel also played well as did lead and rhythm guitarist Jinny and Chloe. The audience seemed to really loosen up too and by the third song girls and guys were dancing around all over the place. Its still early days for the girls but if they keep working on new songs and gain more and more confidence on stage it might not be too long till the Damaged Angels become a house hold name
